Nice little place, I went there on a weekday afternoon for lunch and got a bacon cheeseburger with fries and a glass of water. It was relatively quiet then and had natural light coming in through the windows. For the breakdown of the stars, the food was good but I feel $17 for a burger and fries with no soda drink is a bit high but it is on par in suppose with many places nowadays…but at least dont charge me for the ranch with my fries when ketchup for my burger is free… Service was excellent server Alex was attentive even if I was one of the only people there at a weird time of day. Atmosphere was great with big t.v.s everywhere, Olympic hockey was on when I was there. There are plenty of height chairs for kids, but the men’s bathroom doesn’t have a changing station for dad’s without a woman in their lives. Small critiques to be sure but can add up. Would eat there again. Prettier on the inside than the exterior let’s on.

My coleslaw was almost $4. It’s the size of a condiment cup. My Philly cheesesteak $15 for one slice of pepper. Was really excited for this meal – very bummed with the result.
Update: The restaurant reimbursed for the sandwich which is great – but after doctoring it up it’s still really bad. Portion size is bad. No cheese. No mayo. Barely any onion or pepper. Bad.
It shouldn’t take reviews like this to deliver what is promised on a menu.

Great service and the Meatloaf Stacker was tasty (despite the instant-style gravy), but the value just wasn’t there for us. $16 for a 6-inch cheesesteak and 6 onion rings felt like a lot. Also, the kids’ meal doesn’t include fries or a drink, making it more expensive than just ordering off the main menu. Nice staff, but watch the “extras” on the bill!

Good sports bar with surprisingly good food. I had heard the burgers and nachos were both on point here so I had to give one a go. I want feeling a burger, but I’m PICKY about Mexican food, so I hesitated on the nachos. The very helpful staff and some locals talked me into the OMG nachos. OMG, were they great. I absolutely loved the flavor of the chorizo on the nachos. They were cooked just like I do at home. On a plate and under the broiler, or at least that’s what it looked like. I went from picky to pleased! Plus sports and cold Yuenling on draft. What else could you ask for?

I haven’t been to this bar in a little bit but O always wanted to express my view so here it goes. I really want this bar to succeed. I don’t think they really want people to come after dinner time. It’s packed during dinner but dead after 8pm.
Part of the problem is no one knows what they are doing besides the one dude bartender. It’s obvious nobody has experience or been to bartending school. They don’t know simple names of drinks or ingredients. The bartender will stand around texting on her phone eating instead of making drinks. The waitstaff commandeers the one booth they have with stuff like coats and bags and whatever else.
With a proper manager I think this could be an extremely popular bar for the 30 and up crowd. There is pretty much nowhere else in East Lansing to hangout for older people outside the Peanut Barrel. The One North bar is huge and I expect drinks are pricey because of that. The lawyer bar by the post office is a regulars only snob bar.
Buddies, I would suggest getting some staff that is welcoming and exciting and some entertainment. Staff should understand bar etiquette and know how to make drinks (even the wait staff who commonly mess up the orders). Get the country music off the juke. Liven the place up with some ladies night specials or wherever. Hire a marketing manger for your socials. Get some good music that isn’t TOO loud.
As of now I can guarantee you will see 3 dudes sitting at the end of the bar snd a bartender eating her food while texting. You get the dinner crowd there, get the older folks that want to socialize coming for the evening crowd!
Too bad. This really is an awesome sized bar in a great location. Maybe make some fresher food that isn’t Gordon food service as well. Peanut Barrel and Mayfair have much better burgers.

Server was wonderful. We were the only ones on the patio because we had our dog. Not sure why the place was empty because it was great all around. Maybe because of the huge bar crawl in downtown. Either way, we scored.

We’ve been coming here for decades. The service is consistently attentive and genuinely friendly. The food is solid pub food with creative daily specials. For meeting friends, watching games and when you just don’t want to cook, Buddies will always be our first choice.

My wife ordered the pizza. Talk about lacking favor! Extra cheese and mushrooms is what she ordered and it was like as if they used generic tomato sauce and cheese. We think it was a ready made pizza. The other food wasn’t bad at all, we would even say it rocked. We had a meatloaf sandwich and the philly cheese steak sub. What killed it, was the pizza.

Aok. Not the same place I remember. Tablets lol. Cmon. This used to be a relaxed bar….pizza is ok and undercooked. The steak/philly was ok. Definitely nothing like the photo on the tablet .
Will I be back. Maybe. My family loves this place.
Great service though….

This pet-friendly establishment has a pleasant, fenced-in, outdoor patio area where well-behaved dogs are welcome. The food is pretty good; they accommodated a substitution for blue cheese on my salad which was appreciated, but the chicken was overcooked and too dry. The clam chowder was decent. Our friend had a burger and waffle fries, and that’s where this place excels. The fries were enormous, and reportedly delicious 🙂 Servers were pleasant and accommodating. It was a nice little day trip for us to Lansing, my little buddy and I would come back to Buddies.
