At Tandoori Hut , with our authentic in-house cooking, our intent is to strive to have a strong commitment to conserving the Indian culture and tradition by preserving the standard culinary tastes so beloved in our native land. So say India Natives and Co-Owners: Mr. Varun Desai and Mr. Jaswant Singh. It’s been more than 15 years since the Tandoori hut was established in the San Diego area. Since then we’ve become an icon of Indian cuisine in the area and have established the Tandoori Hut as the favored restaurant of curry connoisseurs across the Southern California area.

Personally, I haven’t had any bad experiences with service. If anything I interpret a shyness of sorts. Definitely nothing deserving of a poor review. I’ve noticed more attention to service recently too, so alls on the up & up if you’re weighing some of the bad reviews here. If you like Indian food, try it out!
Thanks for dinner!
The veg korma was supposed to be spicy, but it was rather a combination of sweet and bland. I will add that the korma definitely was made with fragrant spices, but if someone orders food to be made spicy, it’s a disappointment when it comes out bland. The good part of my order was raita and salad, for which I’ve added two stars.
Un sourire et formule de politesse ça sera de bien
We ordered daal tadka, paneer tikka masala, garlic naan, paneer n alootikki… Every item tasted freshly cooked n yummy n served hot..
Prompt friendly service taking fulfilling your requests thanks a lot to Kashish
From the moment we walked in on our first visit, the service was appalling. The server greeted us like we were an inconvenience, plopped us down, then vanished — no water (despite the blazing heat), no menus, nothing until we had to ask. When water did arrive, it came in flimsy plastic cups that belong in a cheap fast-food joint, not a sit-down restaurant. Food came out with no serving utensils, forcing us to scoop from large shared bowls with our own eating cutlery. And all the while, the server was glued to her earpiece instead of actually doing her job. We were the only customers there — there was zero excuse for this level of neglect.
To top it off, I later discovered a gratuity had been sneakily added to our bill without a single word about it. No mention during the meal, no disclosure at payment — nothing.
On my second visit, I made the mistake of giving them another chance. The new server was miles better — but guess what? Same shady tipping trick. Gratuity quietly added again, never mentioned, and she let me add another tip on top. Only after checking my receipt at home did I realize I’d tipped twice. Whether that’s deliberate or just incompetence, it’s unacceptable — and it feels like a scam.
This place has zero transparency, zero respect for customers, and zero service etiquette. You can serve the best food in the world, but if your business practices are this underhanded, you don’t deserve repeat customers.
Tourists, stay away. Locals, you’ve been warned.
