The beans on my plate smelled like cat diarrhea, the meet between the tacos and the burrito was so disgusting we just surrendered because we knew it was going to make us sick
WOW! What a turnaround! After a few lackluster visits, we decided to give El Tapatio another chance—and I’m so glad we did. The improvement in both food quality and atmosphere was night and day.
We kicked things off with the chicken enchiladas, and let me tell you, they were stuffed! Overflowing with tender, flavorful chicken, they were rich in flavor, well-seasoned, and incredibly satisfying. The cheese enchiladas were just as impressive—huge and packed with flavor. It’s clear that they’ve put a lot more care into their portion sizes, as both dishes were generous enough to fill you up with leftovers.
The Stuffed Poblano was a standout too. The combination of roasted poblano, melty cheese, and savory fajita chicken topped with Rancharo sauce was spot on. It had the right balance of heat and comfort, and I couldn’t get enough of it.
The salsa has definitely improved—it’s more flavorful with just the right amount of zest. Paired with an even larger basket of chips, we were well-fed before the main courses even arrived. We ended up taking home three take-out boxes! What started as what should’ve been three meals turned into six! We had 4 chicken enchiladas left, one and a half cheese enchiladas, and even a full serving of rice. Talk about bang for your buck.
The interior has also been updated, giving the restaurant a much more homey, comfortable vibe. It’s a warm and welcoming atmosphere that’s perfect for enjoying a meal with family or friends. Oh, and let’s not forget the $3 margaritas—a perfect pairing to any meal!
It’s such a relief to see El Tapatio back to its old self—and then some. I’m thrilled we gave them another shot, because the improvement has been drastic. This place is back on the map for us, and I’m excited to return again soon. Thank goodness!
