This may be the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. The atmosphere is cluttered and confusing and not at all suited for dining in the traditional sense, but the food and portions and prices are amazing!!! I had the San Jose Burrito. PERFECTION. The seasoning is great and a wide variety of fresh condiments are provided. Don’t forget to order the $6 dollar bottle of beer. A great bargain!!
UPDATE: Ate here again July 26. Had the Burrito Jalisco, and shared 32oz of beer for $6. It’s no fluke! For the price is the best mechanic restaurant ever.

Food: Absolutely amazing. So much flavor in everything. I highly recommend the birria and al pastor tacos. The Burrito Jalisco was also mindblowing. The peppers and onions inside were caramelized, which took it to the next level. It came with steak, chicken, and shrimp, and it was all super juicy, perfectly cooked, and well-seasoned. The churros were very fresh and not stale whatsoever. The toppings at the toppings bar were great too, and I got some nice, thick crema, a fresh slice of lime, and some salsa. Both the verde and rojo were solid, but the highlight was the rojo. It’s very rare a place can make something that’s actually spicy for my tolerance, but they managed it here.
Service: I got to put my three semesters of Spanish into practice and used it to order. It was a super cool experience and everything came out as I wanted it.
Atmosphere: A bit of a hidden gem, as it’s a food truck attached to a market in a less-trafficked area of town. They do have a small dining area, but I chose to get takeout and eat at home. They had tons of products ranging from snacks to medicine. It was very interesting to see all of that and I spent a good bit of time just looking around. I ended up buying some milk candy which was great.
Edit:
Visit number two. I think they gave me wrong tacos, but it was still good so I don’t wanna complain too much. I can recommend the fajitas tapatia now as well.
Update 3:
Decided to dine in this time, and La Tapatia again doesn’t disappoint. Arroz con carnitas and birria tacos were delicious. Prices are still insanely good, especially in this economy.

La Tapatia is my favorite Mexican spot in Morgantown. The food is truly authentic and always so flavorful. It’s such a hidden gem I almost don’t want to tell anyone because I don’t want it getting too busy. I love that they also have a Mexican market right in the lobby where you can grab authentic groceries. Such a cool touch.

This is the place that people of Mexican and Central America’s go to eat. Good food.Go past the Food truck in the parking lot . Walk through the Hispanic shop/ store to the seating area. If you local and know how it works you grab ourself a drink. Beer or Mexican coke or fanta. I take the 32 oz brown bottle of Carona familiar. Tacos are great and they have a fresh pico ,onion, salsas celantro station. My fav Mexican food / experience restaurant when I’m in Morgantown. Back in town. Had to come here. Still the same. Best Mexican food around.

Most authentic Mexican experience in the area. Prices are amazing for the value. Get the queso chorizo to start, you won’t regret it. We got tacos and fajitas…portions were huge and we left stuffed. Grab a few Mexican beers to wash it down. Can’t go wrong!

La Tapatia hasthe most authentic and flavorful Mexican food in Morgantown. The ingredients taste fresh, the portions are generous, and the prices are fair. I recommend going in with an open mind and giving it a try, you won’t regret it.

I’m from New York so I have had some great authentic Hispanic food before, however, this place blew me away. The guacamole was the best I’ve ever had. I ordered birria tacos and sopes con chorizo. If you’re in Morgantown the only birria taco place u might know is the taco spot on high st. The tacos there are overpriced with little to no meat and flavor and charge extra for consome, skip that place and come here instead.

My boss took me here for lunch and it was Phenomenal! Really like the “extra toppings” mini bar to dress your dish up with extra cilantro, sour cream, pico, salsa, etc. The red salsa has good heat and actual flavor, not just a burn your mouth experience. It’s now my favorite Mexican/Spanish restaurant.

Great food and friendly people. The market has a lot of hard to find items and the restaurant is quaint. I had the arroz con Pollo which had great flavor the rice was seasoned well and the corn tortillas were perfect. My wife had the shrimp quesadilla which was a big one. The flavor was good and everything just worked together. I would recommend trying them out. This is way more authentic than the other places in morgantown.

Super cute market/restaurant mix with great Mexican food! We got takeout and ate in the car for convenience. The burrito j, veggie tacos, and guac were all wonderful. my boyfriend inhaled the burrito in about 45 seconds, no joke. I looked over and saw how big it was and said “wow!” looked away to my taco and when I looked back it was gone haha! The guacamole was fresh and I loved the bite of the onions. The veggie tacos had great grilled flavor and soft corn tortilla – the aroma hit my face when I opened the foil and I just melted. I would love to try some of the meat tacos to see more of what the have to offer. The server was very kind, and we picked up some fun snacks while we were there to try. Wonderful experience!
