Authentic Adobe Flavor & Local Warmth Ranchos Plaza Grill ️☕
We came for breakfast at Ranchos Plaza Grill, right next to the historic San Francisco de Asís Catholic Mission Church one of the most iconic spots in Taos. The restaurant is located inside a beautifully preserved adobe building with original wooden beams, colorful art, and the warm feel of old New Mexico.
We arrived around 10:30 a.m. and were greeted by a friendly host who added us to the short waiting list (about 20 minutes). While waiting, we explored the nearby church a perfect way to spend the time. When we returned, our table was ready a rustic wooden setup that perfectly fit the atmosphere.
We ordered fresh hot coffee (excellent, strong, and perfectly brewed) along with Huevos Rancheros with green chile (vegetarian option) and the Plaza Grill Classic both were flavorful and beautifully plated. The chile had just the right kick without being overpowering.
Make sure to try the Sopapillas, but note they’re only available after 11 a.m.! Luckily, we timed it right. Service was quick, polite, and genuinely warm. Free parking is available outside, and the restrooms were clean and well-kept.
A must-stop in Ranchos de Taos for anyone exploring local food, adobe charm, and authentic New Mexican hospitality.

Ordered the special: rolled tacos….. each one for some reason were charred black on the ends, please change your fryer oil…I could taste the rancid old burn taste that unchanged oil makes. Was served one tablespoon of beans and rice, rice was short grain and had no taste. Our Server was very short with us, no smile no welcome, just a thick bad demeanor, the young man and young lady who brought out our food were sweet and kind. The restaurant was cold and drafty, light fixtures had fur and dust on them, the Vigas in the ceiling have never been cleaned or maintained, the parking lot is a disaster pot holes uneven ground and unmarked. Sad because the prices of the restaurant and surrounding tourist trap shops are pricey!! They should hire someone to at least grade their parking lot. Definitely a restaurant for out of town folks that aren’t familiar with the culture and authentic taste of food or understanding of New Mexican Hospitality… will not recommend will never patronize this restaurant or area of Taos again….
The two stars are only for the young man who seated us and the young lady who brought our food to the table.

Historic location and it has this fantastic grill restaurant. It has great food and it’s next to the most photographed church in New Mexico. I had the tacos and they were phenomenal.

Wow, finally Mexican food with flavor. Tamale, cheese enchilada, relleno were all good, and the taco was actually great. Beef fajitas had good flavor. Lunch portion was perfect, came with 2 flour tortillas. A little slow on the holiday weekend. Single bathroom at the bottom of the restaurant floors.

We really enjoyed our lunch. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. The sopapillas were the best ever. The burger looks small next to the heaping salad (which was a great salad) but it was thick and cooked to perfection. Very filling. I couldn’t eat it all. Kids had a Xmas burrito and cheese quesadilla.
We can’t wait to return. We already know what we want to try next.

Worth going to the other side of town for – we had dinner and then went back the next day for lunch. The sopapillas are to die for, they have honey to drizzle on them at the table. We had beef and the carne adovada enchiladas, tried the green and red chile, absolutely delicious. Also got a chicken quesadilla to try and really delicious – the salsa and guac are top notch.

We went here based on the Diners, Drive-throughs and dives show recommendation. It was delicious. My husband doesn’t normally like Mexican food and even he loved it. Very authentic food.

Really old area of Taos. The atmosphere is relaxing and intriguing and sits right next to the old church. The food was intoxicating.
I had the stuffed sopapilla with beef and green chili, and I am so hooked. The beef tacos were delicious. When in Taos, eat here!
