I was in the area and decided to pick some up for dinner on the way home.
What a great idea!!
I got the leg (2) and thigh (1) dinner and the chicken breast sandwich.
With were just terrific! The texture of the breading was wonderful. Not soggy after the ride home, still just the right amount of crunch and flavored beautify. The meat was tender and full of flavor.
The sandwich was a juicy and crunchy breast that, from the first bite, filled our mouths with flavor.
The onion rings were very good and the cornbread with honey butter was out of this world as the butter had time to soak into the bread and just infused each bite..
Great place, we both talked about how we both want to go back for more.
I now understand why this fried chicken restaurant got a James Beard Award nomination.
Highy, Highly Recommend!
The fish sliders & cornbread were just . You’re supposed to pick a flavor and a sauce for the chicken, but I got mine plain. With that being said – although the chicken was crunchy and juicy, I could taste the flour in the batter. Next time I’ll order it with a flavor/sauce to see if there’s any difference. The pimento mac and cheese wasn’t bad but I really loved the pulled pork baked beans! Yummy!
There’s a small parking area in the front but off to the side there is a lot with plenty of spaces.
The restaurant itself it pretty small, service is nice and fact, and the cocktails are delicious. It’s definitely been on our rotation.
We each ordered the blue plate, which looking around the restaurant, seems to be a popular choice among diners. The server allowed us to substitute tenders in place of the fried thigh and drumstick for the blue plate. I ordered my tenders with the honey Cholula flavor and blue cheese sauce. My partner ordered the Nashville hot flavor with truffle mayo. Both were great, but I’d recommend ordering the Nashville hot or Spicy flavors with blue cheese in retrospect.
For sides, we tried the collard greens, cheesy cheddar grits, corn bread with honey butter, and pulled pork baked beans. All were very good. The cornbread was a good choice because it can serve as a dessert at the end of the meal. The grits and baked beans were both excellent as spreads in the Texas toast that comes with the blue plate. If you order the collard greens, note that it has a pretty intense (almost smoky) flavor and lots of bacon, so be sure that you like both. The creamed corn sweet potato tater tots were popular choices among other customers while we were there.
This is the perfect restaurant if you’re in the mood for fried chicken and Southern food. Bring your appetite because the food is filling; I was glad to hop back on our bikes and do some more exercise after lunch!
It’s an old garage with big glass garage doors, it’s bright and comfortable inside.
We decided to give it a try for the first time and we came back the next day it was so good. Their menu is fun and lots to choose from, they even had a link to a menu on your phone for items that are not on the menu.
The staff were friendly, and the food was out pretty quick. The bar has an amazing selection of craft beers, on tap and in the bottle/can, along with a drink menu that is fun. We tried a few items over the days we came in. my favorite was the HB Famous Bowl, popcorn chicken, over mashed potatoes and gravy with cream corn. It was so big, I took ½ home.
The bartender suggested the cornbread, and let me tell you, I couldn’t get enough, even took some home. Even their take out containers are genius. The bathrooms have nostalgic album covers on the walls, even an autographed WuTang album cover.
It was busy when we came in the first night around 5:30pm but we got a couple seats at the bar, which filled up right after we sat. This place is a must stop, I just wished I had stopped in long before I did.
I got the blue plate with the corn bread fries, blue cheese and spicy:
