Kaijin Sushi is one of those low-key, comfort Japanese spots that completely surprises you—in the best way. Cozy vibes, thoughtful dishes, and standout sushi and sashimi that instantly put this place on my must-return list.

We started with their Yellowtail Jalapeño Sashimi—clean, buttery cuts with just the right kick. The Sushi Premium Set is a must if you want to sample their best fish in one sitting—fresh, beautifully balanced, and seriously satisfying.

Then came the unexpected favorite: Khao Soi ‍ A famous Thai street-style curry ramen with chicken that was rich, comforting, and completely stole the show. Trust me, you wouldn’t expect this here—but you’ll be glad you ordered it.

We also tried the Tempura Don, crispy and hearty, plus rolls like the Hollywood Roll and Salmon Lemon Roll, both flavorful and easy to love.

If you’re looking for a new hidden gem in San Gabriel that blends comforting Japanese classics with surprise dishes you won’t stop thinking about, Kaijin Sushi deserves a spot on your list.

This restaurant is such a gem! The ambiance is really calm and peaceful, and the servers and very kind. We ordered the Kanin Roll, Osaka Fire Rolls, and the tuna crispy rice. All very fresh and flavorful. Definitely recommend – support a local business in the 626!!

Kaijin Sushi (San Gabriel) – hands down my new favorite spot.
The halibut sashimi stole the show: incredibly fresh, buttery-smooth, cool, and clean – some of the best raw fish I’ve ever had. All the sashimi was pristine, no fishy taste, just pure ocean goodness.
And the Destiny Roll? Wow. It’s now my all-time favorite roll – super fresh, perfectly balanced flavors (exactly how I like it). Every bite was heaven.
Service was warm and quick, vibe is cozy and welcoming. Will definitely be back to try more of their rolls. If you love fresh, high-quality sushi with or without the heat, run here. You won’t regret it! ✨

I always try to support local restaurants and Kaijin Sushi had a great sashimi platter 22 pieces for $50! I don’t think you can find a better deal than that and that’s not even HH. We initially went for happy hour but ended up only getting the platter and some HH beers/sake (430-6pm).
Love the retro vibes and they have a tv and projector. It’s a nice a chill place for date night or even a group of friends/family.

Wonderful food. Wonderful staff. Wonderful experience.

We just returned from Japan convinced we’d already tasted the best—but Chef Tone proved us wrong. He crafted dishes we’d never encountered before, each one a perfect balance of creativity, freshness, and flavor. Truly unforgettable.

Stopped by Kaijin Sushi after the new ownership change and it’s definitely worth a visit! The rolls were fresh and beautifully plated (loved the Sexy Lady,Sea Master rolls and katsudon). The staff and chef were super friendly and welcoming, and they have an impressive variety of sake options to choose from.

The free gyoza for their opening deal was a nice bonus too! Great vibes, solid sushi, and a team that clearly cares about making guests feel at home. Excited to come back and try more.

Delicious. I shared a bunch of vegetarian rolls including the vegetarian mixed roll, cucumber/avocado roll, inari, and shishito peppers (without bonito flakes). The service was great and look forward to returning.
