I love this place. I went for drink and tapas which is their specialty. I tried martini which was good and two different tapas. One was the potato which is so delicious. The sauce is creamy and full of flavor. I also tried sourdough bread with tomato which is good but it’s something really simple and a safe option maybe. The best part is their san Sebastian or basque cheesecake which is just wow. The vibe is also really good and they give you a card with your bill which is really cool.

We visited The Highwayman for a double date with friends visiting from Montreal, and it was the perfect spot to catch up and enjoy a night out. Our server, Rob, was fantastic—friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive throughout the evening. The food came out quickly and everything we tried was delicious. The mushrooms were my personal favourite—definitely a must-have for any mushroom lover. While the desserts were good, the savoury dishes were definitely the highlight of the meal. It is on the pricier side, but I felt it was well worth it for the quality, service, and experience.

We loved this place so much we came back a second time after our trip of the Maritimes. From the selection of quality cocktails to the awesome service and choice of late night bites and dessert, we were hooked. The Thirst Aid Kit was my go to cocktail and we thoroughly enjoyed their wines, basque cheesecake and the tomato bread was divine.

Travis our mixologist and server added to the evening and it was a perfect way to finish off an incredible trip across the East Coast of Canada – Thanks Travis! Thanks Team!

This delicious tapas restaurant is the perfect spot for a date night or group outing as long as you like to share! The server was friendly, responsive and the food came out fairly quickly and not all at once. There wasn’t a single dish we disliked though some we loved. They also were very careful for my allergies. Highly recommend making a reservation and parking can be a bit of a challenge.

Inviting and delicious, we can’t wait to go back. The staff were beautifully on point, and the food packs a maritime punch with a truly elegant twist. Try the tartar, you must.

Came here around 4pm for happy hour and it was almost empty so it was nice having the space to ourselves. Reservations were showing as booked out around that time too but there is likely seating not listed online.

Got the seafood & snack platters which was a nice way to try a little of everything, it came with half a dozen oysters too and you can mix and match different types. It’s not a large space so it probably gets full during busy periods.

What a vibe. This place was the perfect spot to end the night out. The atmosphere was quiet, peaceful, dark and rich. The drinks were an art work in themselves. Well balanced and perfect for sipping. The small plates were excellent to have somthing to pick at while chatting with already filled belly’s. Our bar master Keagan was exceptional in service and insight. Would love to come back over and over again.

We rolled into Halifax late on a Tuesday night, and Highwayman was the only place still open—and thank god for that.

It’s a cozy, dimly lit spot with a great vibe for late-night drinks and tapas. The food was solid—I’ve had tapas in Barcelona, so I won’t say it matched that, but for Halifax? It impressed. It was our first meal in the city, and it set the bar high.

What really stood out was the service. Genuinely warm, unrushed, and personal. The staff took time to walk us through the menu, share recommendations, and made us feel truly cared for—no sense of “we’re winding down,” even though we came in late.

If you’re looking for a relaxed spot with great service and a strong late-night vibe, this is it. Halifax could use more places like this.

I had the Oysters, Beets & Pears, Olives, Pork Collar and a drinkable red wine. Great busy, sexy, atmosphere. Wait staff are attentive and professional.

My only complaint is, the music could have been louder. Thats it.

Great Tappas House!

Thank You for a Lovely meal

Highwayman has long been one of those places in Halifax you find yourself returning to again and again.

Tucked along Barrington Street, the space itself is always such a vibe. Warm lighting, historic character, and an energy that somehow feels both intimate and lively at the same time. Behind the bar, the glowing wall of bottles draws you in, but it’s the red lit door tucked behind it that quietly sets the mood for the entire room. It’s subtle, a little mysterious, and somehow makes the whole space feel transportive.

The bar team is a huge part of what makes Highwayman special. Jonah is genuinely a light behind the bar, always welcoming, always great conversation, and the kind of person who makes you feel like a regular even if it’s been a while since your last visit.

And then there’s Keagan, whose World Class competition win speaks for itself. The level of skill behind the bar shows in every cocktail. Thoughtful, balanced, and consistently excellent without ever feeling showy or overworked.

The food is always on point. Simple in concept but elevated in execution, exactly what shared plates should be. Perfect for a night out with friends where the table fills naturally as conversations stretch longer. The chili empanadas, when they appear, are honestly one of the best bar bites in the city and deserve permanent status on the menu. Bring them back.

Everything here feels intentional without trying too hard. Great drinks, consistently strong food, and an atmosphere that just works.

A true Barrington Street staple and still one of the best places in Halifax to catch up with friends, share plates, and settle in for the night.
