I would absolutely recommend checking them out, but also, give them some grace. It is a new restaurant, and I imagine most of the staff is new. It takes time to find a rhythm. We will be back for sure.
Keep in mind that with BBQ places, running out of certain items, especially meat is very common, even more so when the establishment just opened. BBQ is a very hard food to design around amounts of people showing that day. Give these guys some time to fine tune!
…1st visit was at 7 pm on a Thursday the week they opened. Was greeted with “we’re out of Brisket, Ribs and Sausage and there’s a one hour wait for food”…was really looking forward to their opening but walked out very disappointed. Bub’s isn’t big enough (including outside seating) nor is it a “cook to order” type of restaurant to ever warrant a “one hour wait for food”. As far as running out of meat and an hour wait for food go, (considering Bub’s restaurant history) those negatives have to be due to poor management.
…2nd visit was today 8/31 @ 3 pm. We ordered Smoked Brisket and Pulled Pork sandwiches with Fries, Coleslaw, and Cornbread as sides. The Brisket was dry where it wasn’t fatty (void of juice/moisture) and lacked any real flavor…couldn’t taste any supposed rub. The Pork was dry as a bone, way over cooked…I think if you blew on it ‘porkdust’ would of flown off…both meats were highly disappointing. As far as the sides go…Coleslaw was watery, over sugared with a few small specks of carrot, Fries were hot when served but lacked any seasoning/salt and the Cornbread seemed like a box type with no added flavor. Another disappointing factor about Bub’s is they only offer one kind of BBQ sauce at the table…a rather generic sauce at that. The Brisket and Pork come sauceless…so one generic sauce doesn’t cut it. I’m not going to comment on the restaurant’s “atmosphere” or “service” because as far as I’m concerned, if the food’s not good the rest is irrelevant.
Really, really disappointing…I was so looking forward to their opening but with what we experienced, along with closed restaurants in Demotte and Rensselaer, makes me wonder how long Bub’s will last in Lowell…
FOLLOW UP: I knew “Bub’s BBQ” wouldn’t last because of poor management and quality issues but only lasting a couple months . . . didn’t see that coming! “We’re going to bring you something like you’ve never seen before” . . . you were right Bub, never seen a business fail that quick!
It opened. Always something. Well finally made it. The food is good. But ordered the bucket of bbq. And came with 4 sides. The sides were individual sized. You figure you spend 70 bucks on a meal
And you would get at least a family size side.
But this time it was a 5 star
The service is great
Food is Outstanding !!!!
I’m not a beer drinker and they brew all thier own, my friend tried a few and loved them.
It’s my New go to BBQ spot
Plus they have a nice patio
Go and enjoy
