AMAZING! This restaurant will not disappoint you. Everything was perfect from the food to the service there are no complaints. The lamb shank youvetsi was so full of flavor and falling off the bone, literally. Crab cakes were packed with well seasoned crab meat. Pasta perfectly al dente with a smooth smoke flavor not to mention the grilled chicken with the beautiful smoke flavor. This little gem is a favorite of mine. Don’t miss out if you are in the area. Call ahead for a reservation.

Last night, January 3, 2026, I went with my friends for the first time. It was a very inviting location, with excellent service and cuisine! ❤️❤️❤️ I will definitely return and suggest this restaurant. I relish every bite of my meal. Kuddos to the whole staff. ❤️❤️❤️

This restaurant was an outstanding find using Google Maps. It is a bit upscale but still casual. The food was excellent. You may not have to have a reservation but it is a good idea. We were seated without one, but they cautioned us that it is unusual. The service was excellent. The entire place is kept very clean and tidy. There is plenty of free parking in the area along city streets and parking garages and most is free.

Excellent service at lunch time. Delicious fresh food. Tried the “special” and was not disappointed. Server was very helpful with first time customers. Relatively small dining area inside, but there are also sidewalk tables out front (weather permitting).

Perfect for couples dining together.

Full bar.

The Best Meal of Our Trip – Authentic, Delicious, and Downtown Charm

We visited Owensboro for three days and ate at three different spots: Cracker Barrel, Texas Roadhouse, and The Famous Bistro. While the chains were fine, The Famous Bistro was on a completely different level.

Located right in the heart of downtown, this is a cozy, casual spot where reservations are definitely preferred because it is quite small. It has a great atmosphere with an open kitchen where you can watch the excellent chefs prepare your meal in clear view. Parking was also very easy with a plentiful lot adjacent to the building.

**The Food:**
Since the owner is Greek, I had high hopes for the House-made Moussaka, and it did not disappoint! I went with the 16 oz Creekstone Ribeye, and it was top-notch—far superior to what you get at your typical corporate steakhouse. They also have a wide variety of liquors and wines to pair with the meal.

**The Service:**
The staff as a whole seemed “next level,” but our specific experience with our server was the only downside. She didn’t know the specials or the menu items by memory, which was a bit of a letdown for a place of this caliber. My only regret is that we didn’t get one of the waitresses who knew the menu inside and out.

**The Verdict:**
Despite the server’s lack of knowledge regarding the specials, we still left a generous tip, largely due to the incredible chefs and the quality of the food. If you are in Owensboro, skip the chains and come here—just cross your fingers for a server who knows the menu!

Don’t go late, they won’t even seat you.
We stopped in on Friday night, one hour and 15 before closing, for a cocktail and an appetizer. A server met us near the door and asked if we had a reservation. Over half of the tables were empty. Seriously, over half. I asked if we needed a reservation. She looked around and said, “Well, we’re so swamped.”

I thought I misheard her. I asked if we could have a sidewalk table. She said she didn’t know but would check. We walked outside and there were tables available but she continued to stammer about being so busy. We walked across the street to Mellow Mushroom and had a delicious pizza.

This was the 3rd time Famous has failed to deliver any kind of professional service. I’m done and won’t go back.

I’ve been here twice before. Sat outside once and had salad. Not bad, nothing special. Big dinner party the second time, the restaurant treated us like royalty. Very impressive. That’s why I suggested it this time. The restaurant was filled to capacity and I felt like I had to yell to be heard. I missed almost half of the dinner conversation because the place was so noisy. The photo on the right is pesto sauce, made with basil. The photo on the left is the dish they served me and said it was a sun dried tomato pesto over penne pasta. If the description had said it was a red tomato sauce, I wouldn’t have bothered to try it.

We had never been here since we are new to the area and thought we would give it a try. I am not one to leave negative reviews but this was our experience. We left disappointed. I got a Reuben and I asked for blue cheese for the carrots and a side of mustard. I also asked for a drink menu. I never received the drink menu nor did I receive the mustard and they charged me $2 for a small ramekin of blue cheese. How do you charge more for two tablespoons of blue cheese then you can pay for a bottle? The Ruben was fine. Would have been better with mustard. My son got the cheesesteak and I really wish she would have indicated that it was far too big for one person to eat. It was OK as well but he said it was very salty. My daughter got a brownie That seemed quite dry and had a lot of cinnamon on it. I don’t know that we will go back. Maybe it was just an off afternoon.

By far, The Famous Bistro is mine and my husbands most favorite place to eat! The food is absolutely amazing! The chef is by far the greatest! Service is always excellent no matter what day or time you go. This is my go-to place for date nights, girls nights, or just a quick yummy lunch! 100% recommend!
