This local spot crushes it every time with delicious food. As one who enjoys dishes hawaii is known for along with being a southern California native who regularly eats California style Mexican food. Temple has paired the two together with perfection. No where in the county offers what is served here. The quality, service, price point are spot on

My favorite food truck grew up and is now turned into a brick and mortar. Tucked away in a little unassuming strip mall lies this gem that serves up a fusion of california-Asian, Mexican-Hawaiian inspired shrimp based dishes but there are a few veg options in there if you are so inclined. Everything on the menu is insanely good but my favorites are the shrimp and pork al pastor burrito, garlic noodles and the katsu, my wife loves the poke nachos. Watch their Instagram for the limited specials that happen regularly and are not on the menu. The owner Temple is one of the nicest guys around and deserves your business. Trust me, you’ll be coming back for more.

Went there for dinner (close to my office) and ordered a gluten free option – Tri-Tip Tacos. I normally wouldn’t order this but am I glad I did. These were definitely the best steak tacos I have had if not the best tacos ever – period. Lots of steak (more than I could eat) and avocado. Temple (owner) even cut up tortillas and made fresh chips. Seasoning was great. Cant wait to taste the rest of the menu!

I’ve been going to shrimp vs chef since before it was a restaurant when it was only a food truck. The dishes are all original and unique. The flavors are amazing and the owner puts so much love into his food. You can taste it in every single bite. Make sure to try everything on the menu at least twice because it’s all fantastic and unique.

If you’re anywhere near Thousand Oaks and haven’t been to Shrimp vs Chef, you’re missing out—plain and simple.

The poke bowl is next-level good. Fresh, clean, perfectly balanced, and loaded with flavor. Every bite tastes like it was just prepped moments ago—the fish is incredibly fresh, the ingredients are crisp, and the portions are generous without being overdone. It’s the kind of bowl that makes you slow down just to appreciate how dialed-in everything is.

The menu is thoughtfully put together with a great mix of poke, shrimp, and chef-driven options that feel elevated but still approachable. Nothing feels like an afterthought—everything is intentional, well-seasoned, and clearly made with quality ingredients.

And then there’s the vibe. Super welcoming, relaxed, and upbeat. It’s the kind of place where you instantly feel comfortable—whether you’re grabbing a quick lunch, meeting friends, or just treating yourself to something genuinely good. The staff adds to that energy: friendly, engaged, and proud of what they’re serving (as they should be).

Bottom line: fresh food, amazing poke bowls, great energy, and a menu that delivers across the board. Shrimp vs Chef is a standout in Thousand Oaks and easily a place you’ll keep coming back to.

Really enjoyed our first visit there. I highly recommend the Poke Nachos, which were sweeter than I expected, but still oh so good. My Baja Shrimp Burrito was cabbage heavy, which I rather enjoyed. My wife liked the Turkey burger. The kids actually liked everything… Needless to say, we’ll be going back.

This an excellent establishment. The food was delicious and the vibes in there were very fun ! The owner was also super cool and friendly. We stopped here on a work trip but if I lived locally I would be in there all the time. I had the garlic noodles with friend shrimp and it was honestly incredible. The prices were reasonable and bathroom was very clean. I would recommend trying this locally owned restaurant.

Shrimp vs Chef offers a delectable Garlic Noodles dish paired with tempura shrimp. The combination of perfectly cooked noodles infused with aromatic garlic and the light, crispy tempura shrimp creates a harmonious blend of flavors and textures. This dish exemplifies Shrimp vs Chef’s commitment to delivering exceptional food. Love this place!

You’re not going to find food that’s more fresh than this.
Cooked to order. Service is great. Ambiance is really cool.
If you haven’t been here yet then do yourself a favor and go. We drove almost 3 hours to get here and it was worth every minute of the drive. Bring your big boy appetite and get ready for your tastebuds to be begging you for more.
