We had: 1. Deli Breakfast Sandwich with Baked Beef Bacon and a Runny Egg 2. Latke Bomb with a Runny Egg 3. Classic Lox 4. Cinnamon Raisin Bagel with Cinnamon, Apple and Raisin Schmear 5. Coffee
Notes:
– Takeout only
– Sandwiches are all made to order. They were efficient, but this is not fast food. Instead it was really good food made fairly fast
This was such an amazing addition to Colonial Williamsburg and Duke of Gloucester area for both locals and tourists.
It’s a very charming lil place. When I arrived yesterday, just around 1230hrs, there was a line out the door. I was very happy to see that they seem to be enjoying a strong opening. The line moved along; everyone around me seemed to be taking it all in and we chatted amiably as we waited for our turns to order.
As is my tendency when trying a new dining experience, I ordered several items from the menu which I’m enjoying at home over a few days. I feel this is a good way to gauge the quality of the foods offered.
In short, I found everything that I brought home to be very, very well done.
– A Lox Onion bagel for breakfast today. Even after refrigerating overnight, the bagel maintained its firm crust and supple dough. Combined with the salmon, capers, onions and cream cheese schmear, it made for a great mouth feel and flavor combination.
– A 1lb, yes, POUND, Reuben on toasted rye. Another excellent choice with some of the best corned beef I’ve ever had; well seasoned and moist, so much so that the toasted rye didn’t stand a chance. Delicious. And enough for two nap-inducing meals.
– The Shiksa Italiano. The fresh ingredients each had excellent impact on the palate.
– Latkes w/applesauce. Two orders of three made for a nice side to the Reuben and Shiksa.
I look forward to to many future visits. The staff are warm and caring, the aromas delectable, and the offerings are a perfect, well-balanced number.
What truly sets The Jewish Mother apart are their bagels. As a former New Yorker, I know a real bagel when I taste one, and these are the real deal: crisp on the outside, chewy on the inside, and bursting with flavor. Each bite took me straight back to the bagel shops of NYC, and that’s no easy feat outside the five boroughs.
But it doesn’t stop there. Their selection of cream cheese schmears is nothing short of impressive. From classic scallion and veggie to more adventurous options, there’s truly something for everyone. You could almost make a meal just by sampling the different spreads! Check out the cinnamon apple and raisin and get the cinnamon raisin bagel! Shout out Sam for this recommendation!!
The sandwiches here are equally fantastic—generous, fresh, and stacked high with quality ingredients. Whether you’re craving a classic lox and bagel or something heartier, you can’t go wrong.
I also have to give a special shoutout to the front of house staff. Every time I visit, they’re warm, friendly, and genuinely attentive, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
Now, I’ve seen a few people complain about the parking, and to that I’ll just say: It’s 2025—do your research! Williamsburg has plenty of parking options nearby if you take a moment to look. Don’t let something so minor keep you from experiencing one of the best spots in town.
In short, The Jewish Mother is a gem—great food, great people, great vibes. If you’re a bagel lover (or just a lover of good food), you owe it to yourself to check this place out!
My Wife and I order the roast beef sandwich no tomato and the Italiano. After receiving our food we walked to our car which is 30s from the shop and upon opening the roast beef sandwich it has tomato ( good thing im not allergic) , the bread was soggy around the edges, there wasn’t any caramelized onion that was supposed to be included on the sandwich, lettuce wilted ,and the quality of the roast beef was absolutely terrible. It smelled as if it was old or on the verge of spoiling, nor did it taste like beef. I could not finish it
The shiksas Italiano was slightly better with fresher ingredients but then they forgot to put the basil pesto on the sandwich so it was extremely dry.
For two sandwiches to be over $30 you have got to do better! This was my first and last visit unfortunately.
