Very good bagels, run by a very nice family. The atmosphere is clean, but not somewhere that’s very inviting to eat. Since the pandemic, I haven’t seen literally anybody eating here. People just get their stuff to go. That said, they make proper boiled bagels fresh every day. They’re chewy and crisp when toasted, which is exactly how a bagel should
be. I’m a lox guy, and they’ve only ever served me good, fresh lox. This is an important detail. Tons of bagel places serve fishy lox that you can tell hasn’t been properly refrigerated or stored. This is never the case at house of bagels. To be honest, I’ve kind of had an addiction to this place. I go on jags where I get a bagel there 4 times a week….one last thing: try the pastrami bagel. It’s delicious.

I feel bad for this place. They make some of the best, authentic NYC bagels anywhere. Much better than some of the better known shops. But they are family run, and they seem burned out. They have been robbed a few times and I think that would sap the spirit from anyone. These days, they only stay open until 2pm, and run out of many flavors long before. The poor woman at the counter seems like she’d rather be anywhere else. But they still make great bagels! So I go by whenever I can go early in the day and stock up. They are almost as good after freezing.

Coming from the east coast, I generally rate a bagel spot on if they have egg bagels. Not egg sandwich on a bagel, I’m talking the bagel flavor is egg – discernable from its yellow color and better flavor. This place has them, and when competing with Starter Bakery, and a crepe stall, this was our choice on a Sunday morning. Usually you’ll wait in a quick moving line as the staff churns out bagels. I was thrilled to not only see a lox bagel option, but a white fish as well once again confirming the legitimacy. I ended up ordering the lox bagel, but on a future visit will definitely see if I can add white fish salad to it. The sandwich itself was great – decent amount of lox, and the bagel is perfectly chewy. I would recommend skipping the self serve coffee for another local spot, however.

A tiny hole in the wall with two tables. They definitely don’t want you to sit down. The service is worse. I ordered a bagel which listed “egg, green onion, cheddar cheese” and it said “add bacon” for an extra charge. Yet when I got the bagel they had added bacon, which I don’t eat. Fine, a mistake, yet when I complained they wouldn’t refund my bagel and charged me for a new one. Fix your menu, get better service

It’s a bagel. I’ve had famous bagels almost everywhere I’ve been due to my traveling buddy being a New York bagel freak. These bagels are good. They offer a variety of cream cheeses and bagel types. I usually opt for their lox bagel. All of their cream cheeses were tasty. The lady who owns the place is friendly and quick.

Excellent bagels – much better than Noah’s ever was. Good lox, and Lily serves an ample portion. Good vegetables. All around good neighborhood eatery. Family business. They also have a place in Alameda.

I don’t know why people are trying to say these other bagel places like Boichek and Poppy are better. I LOVE this place!!! It’s completely under rated and should be packed and sold out everyday. The sausage egg and cheese bagel and the lox sandwich are the usual order. Amazing and just so good!

A family bagel business that’s given up on keeping up. This used to be our go to spot back in 2017… but fast forward to today and you have a store that’s unkept, consistently out of any high demand bagel that aren’t plain bagels (I.e. the types of bagels you wouldn’t find anywhere else like Egg Bagels or Chocolate Chip bagels), lack of any online ordering options or web presence with updated hours.

It doesn’t seem like anything is going to change anytime soon so if I were you, I’d try to find another option if you desire any sort of consistent experience that doesn’t include “We’re out of that bagel.”

My favorite bagel shop. These guys know how to make an authentic New York style bagel and have been doing it for years, and have kept their prices affordable. This is one of those local treasures that is a true contribution to the town. Unassuming, authentic bagels that you don’t need a six figure tech job to afford regularly.

This place was sad. Tried the lox bagel and had to ask for more red onion because there was only one tiny sliver on the bagel. Bagel was slapped together and somewhat stale…had one bite and lox tasted old and slimy. Threw away the rest. Please check the quality of your ingredients. Not worth the price.
