However, the sushi itself was just okay. While the toppings/add-on flavors were good, the fish lacked that rich, “melt-in-your-mouth” quality and natural oiliness you expect from premium cuts like otoro or engawa. The crème brûlée at the end was a highlight, and the pricing is fair, but for the same cost, I find the fish quality in Little Tokyo to be more satisfying. It’s a great spot for the “Japan experience,” but if you’re strictly chasing the best possible fish, you might be disappointed.
Chef Taiki-san’s attention to detail is highlighted in each dish with fresh ingredients and vibrant flavors. His creative presentation flowed from one course to the next.
My favorite dish of the evening was the wagyu with uni and caviar, which melted in my mouth with a rich and buttery note. The unagi with foie gras on toast was also very flavorful.
I recommend this place to all seasoned sushi lovers and anyone looking to explore authentic Japanese cuisine.
The menu features a variety of dishes and over 10 courses; top shelf Sashimi, various starters and appetizers, 8 pieces of chef’s choice nigiri, a featured dish with succulent A5 wagyu that is to die for, and more. The sushi selection and multiple course dinner is impressive, showcasing freshness and skill in preparation by Chef Taiki and team.
Service is attentive and knowledgeable, with a top notch experience throughout your meal and the saki drinks just keep flowing.
If you’re looking for an authentic omekase, high-quality Japanese food in an exclusive private and intimate setting, Kuramoto is definitely worth a visit. 5 stars and highly recommend!
Lunch moves at your pace of choosing unless you linger. Service is nice enough, pretty typical. The lunch Omakase starts with a sashimi salad which was just average. Chawanmushi was solid with a mild flavored stock, smooth egg and pieces of seafood. Sushi followed and though it was pleasant, there was nothing memorable, out of the ordinary, or hyper seasonal. The Tamago was really light and ate almost like a cake. The cup of dashi before dessert was a treat.
A solid lunch for the price point, but nothing really stood out. I’m sure dinner service will offer more highpoints but of course comes the equivalence in price. I’d come back for lunch if I was in the area, but it’s not worth a special trip.
