The Settle Down Tavern opened on May 26th 2020! We are a neighborhood tavern located in the heart of Madison’s First Settlement District. We have an expansive patio right outside our front door. Our atrium seating is spacious and filled with natural light and plants. The tavern is a warm inviting space where guests are friends and friends are always top priority. Come join us for delicious smash burgers, vegetarian plates, fresh juice cocktails, ice cold beers and friendly faces. Good vibes only! Had placed a to go order, but right as I had paid. Our puppy had completed his chemo.
We asked if we could sit with him, and were able to do so in the middle shared space!
The burger is a solid 8/10.
A little too much salt, but other than that, it was simply delicious. As of now, best burger I’ve had in Madison. The fries were nice and crispy and even the left over fries were good on we got home 4 hours later and I threw them in the air frier.
The chopped cheese was OK, not as good as Stadium Takeout.
Most importantly parking was available during our 1 PM Tuesday stop in

Parents came into town and we wanted to try this place for the first time. The location is right in the heart of downtown near the capitol square. The staff were super friendly, and seated us right away. We had an option to sit “inside” at the bar, or “on the porch” which was more like the center of the building, or outside on the patio. We chose “on the porch” which was the middle of what looked like an old office building with a skylight and tasteful decorations to make you feel like you’re outside without being outside. Was actually kind of cool.
We ordered cheese curds for apps. Honestly, at first I thought the texture was a bit soft/mushie but they really grew on me. The rest of the family agreed. They came out super fast but were still fresh and hot.
Same with the food, our burgers came out like 5 minutes after we ordered. The burger was actually phenomenal, no complaints. Ingredients tasted fresh and there was just the right amount of salt in the meat. Potato bun was nice and fluffy.
The 4 stars comes from the fries. Don’t get me wrong, nothing to complain about the fries themselves. Actually, they were salted, shaped, and crisped exactly like McDonald’s fries. Never seen another restaurant get so close to Macca’s fries, so we’re kind of impressed. But the knocked star: the burger is already $15. Just the burger. And then you pay $5 more just to get fries added on. The burger and fries are good… but $20 good? Nahhh. And it’s on the smaller side too.
Would I recommend this place? Absolutely. I’ll probably end up back at some point myself. Just eat a snack before going and expect to pay $20 for a tummy tickler, and this place is spot on.

Enjoyed a splendid Valentine’s Day dinner with my partner at Settle Down last night! We each had a burger and shared an order of fries. All of our food was ready quickly, piping hot, and delicious! The fries were particularly scrumptious, like a perfected version of McDonald’s fries. The espresso martini is my favorite that I’ve tried in Madison so far. Despite it being a very busy evening, our server, Molly, was very attentive and made us feel welcomed and celebrated. Overall a wonderful experience at Settle!!!

The best place to eat/drink in Madison especially if you are a vegetarian/pescatarian. As soon as you walk into the bar, you get the vibe that it’s a funky retro place that really understands craft cocktail and Gastropub food. And those vibes are correct! I had the best falafel burger. So crispy and perfectly spiced. My husband had the fish sandwich. It was crispy, perfectly cooked and has this killer red cabbage coleslaw. The fries as super crispy and come with a great sauce. We went there for lunch. It is soooo good, I am going back for dinner!

To be honest felt completely disrespected by management. We had a great time at 5pm and were asked to leave because we had a little too much to drink. Which we respected and didn’t cause a scene. We immediately paid our bill, tipped our server generously and ordered an uber. In the process of waiting 7 minutes for our Uber we were asked to leave 3 more times even though we were not being disruptive while we peacefully waited for our ride, paid our bill, tipped our server and weren’t otherwise being disruptive. The disrespect was excessive and to be honest I will never return and the food was forgettable enough to never return anyways. The server had no idea what burgers were on the menu and even when we received our food it was very mediocre to be generous. I’ll be sure to tell others about the over priced food and absolutely horrible service. To be honest the manager on staff should be fired for the blatant disrespect. I would have been fine paying my bill and leaving but the fact that we felt harassed while we were peacefully waiting in the corner for our uber was excessive and we will not return and I will make sure to tell everyone we know not to go there as well.

We were seated and welcomed with a wonderful waiter. Drinks were very very good with a variety of specialty, standard and NA drinks. We all ordered the smash burger and it’s the way to go for sure. They accommodated my modifications, were very fast despite the busy atmosphere and had a great overall vibe. We left incredibly satisfied. I definitely checking this place out.

I wanted to like this place more than I actually did. The restaurant has a very neat atmosphere; it feels like ‘old hotel meets hipster’. The staff were attentive and helpful. The menu here is surprisingly small; I think there are more drink options than food options. My small group tried several things, and our general consensus was that the food was fine, but nothing special, and felt maybe a bit overpriced (i.e. the burger cost a roughly normal amount until you realize it didn’t come with any sort of side). The general agreement with my friends was that we are happy to have tried this place, but likely won’t go back with any regularity.
