Recently, my wife, our youngest son Andrew, and I found ourselves at Mazatlan Taqueria & Grill in Hercules, CA, after a visit to the nearby barbershop where Caleb was getting a haircut. Nestled in a cozy strip mall, the restaurant’s compact size initially made it feel a bit crowded and lively, especially with the TV broadcasting a soccer match at a noticeable volume.

Upon entering, we were greeted by a friendly and efficient staff. The ordering process was streamlined, thanks to a well-organized display showcasing some of their most appetizing dishes. The menu boasts a variety of options, including seafood selections and traditional favorites like enchiladas, tacos, and chile relleno.

Our food arrived promptly and was visually appealing. While the flavors were enjoyable, they didn’t leave a lasting impression. Andrew and my wife seemed satisfied with their meals, but I felt the portion sizes were modest for the price, and the beverage options leaned heavily towards sodas and sugary drinks. Given my preference for healthier choices, this was a slight drawback.

Considering the limited seating and bustling atmosphere, opting for takeout might be a more comfortable choice for future visits. The surrounding area offers a variety of other dining options, so exploring nearby eateries could be worthwhile. However, if you’re in the vicinity, perhaps after a visit to the barbershop, Mazatlan Taqueria & Grill is a convenient spot to grab a bite.

In summary, while the restaurant has its merits, such as friendly service and a diverse menu, the dining experience could be enhanced with more spacious seating and a broader selection of healthier beverages. I’d rate it at 3.5 stars, with a recommendation to consider takeout for a more comfortable experience.

A testament to this restaurant is how packed it is no matter what time we come here. Their food is excelente, love their shrimp tacos, the shrimp and octopus coctail is off the chain! And the service is very effective! They run, run, run, my hat off to the cooks and servers. I recommend you try them out. Food is worth it.

If you never been to Culiacán and had aguachile, well you don’t have to go far to have the same food experience, their seafood is pretty authentic to how you can imagine in Mexico. Best aguachile in the whole Bay Area.

I noticed that the tacos are smaller than they use to be. I don’t know if restaurants realize that people do realize that they are paying for for less food. But we do. The food is great.

At first glance, the place felt kinda pricey, but the food tastes really good and is super fresh. AND the serving size is massive. Come hungry….and still go home with a take-away bag. That’s how large the serving size is.

I’ve been here twice now. The first time I tried a variety of tacos including carne asada and birria. All were good. So I came back a second time and there will not be a third visit.
Firstly, I ordered via phone and the person taking my order was so rude to me. I kept trying to order and she kept talking over me! Then asked for my name even when I wasn’t done ordering. I tried to get clarification on my order and she kept assuring me the item was correct although when I got there and the order was wrong. She also asked if we wanted chips and salsa and failed to tell us it’s an extra $2.50 charge. It’s so unfair that people do not disclose that items are extra especially when food is so expensive.
When I got there, I realized the order was wrong so she fixed it and we waited maybe 20 – 25 minutes after getting to the restaurant for our order when we were quoted 30 minutes. So in total we waited about 50 minutes.
So about those chips and salsa they didn’t even put it in our order! I only realized after we were halfway home and we paid extra for that! The food was okay. I think the bad customer service just gave me an overall bad taste in general for this place. I don’t recommend this place and will be going back to my regular favorite restaurants instead.

I give the friendly staff and food (Carnitas Burrito) an unofficial 5 Star rating. The price points is equivalent to that of dine in restaurants like Cattleman’s or Red Lobster in Sacramento area. But considering the geographic location in comparison, I can see why the price point is higher. Anyway, chose to have lunch time on my way back from Albany, CA. Who knew???

As for the Carnitas Burrito, was the least expensive or equivalent to a 1 item plate (includes Beans and Rice). This burrito appeared to be massive with Pork, Beans, Rice and Salsa Fresca. The meal was also completed with a basket of chips and some great tasting and a hint of spicy Fresh Pico De Gallo Salsa. It took a bit of the burrito. That pork was strong, the Salsa Fresca added to the character of what a burrito flavor should be like. Delicious.

As for the unofficial 5 Star rating, was due to the fact that a Veterans or military discount was not available which I will need to give an Official 4 Stars rating. Sorry, but staff and good was great.

First time ordering from door dash. Order came wrong and the prices they charge compared to their current menu is @ $5-6 per item. I left a personal note on my door dash order but apparently the restaurant did not see it. I could not find a place on Mazalans door dash page to specify my order. Not a satisfied customer
