Food was good and fresh as always! It’s not my first time going here. Would definitely recommend this place for brunch. Haven’t been here at night.
Items ordered:
1. French Toast 5⭐
2. Chicken Sandwich 4⭐
3. Mushroom Lasagna 5⭐ must try
Drinks…
Chai latte: Good, though the chai was a little weaker than I prefer. Not too sweet, which I love.
Latte: Good, and definitely worth getting again. Not too sweet, and the cold foam is a nice complement.
Peach Gatsby: Very nice! Not too sweet, which can be hard to find.
Scarlet Cooler: Good, but I think we preferred the Peach Gatsby.
Food…
Chicken and waffles: Good. The waffle definitely leans savory, rather than just being a normal waffle with chicken slapped on top.
Chicken pot pie: A little mild, but the vegetables were fresh and the dish was great overall.
Cinnamon French toast: Absolutely amazing! I also like the portion size.
Crab deviled eggs: Delicious. I regretted only getting one order.
Kramers Benedict (with crab cake): Good, but the crab cakes had a lot of filler; I prefer lump crab cake. I’d recommend their ham version instead.
Kramers Benedict (with ham): I’m pretty picky about eggs benedict, and this was very good. Almost on par with The Smith, and a few bucks less here. (Maybe $4 cheaper?)
Mediterranean falafel wrap: Awesome. I really hope they add it back to the menu.
Pumpkin-spiced waffle: One of the best waffles I’ve ever had. Fresh whipped cream, prominent pumpkin taste without being overpowering, and delicious special syrup. So glad fall is just starting!
Summer pesto pasta: The only dish we weren’t crazy about. A little bland, and oily to a gross extent. Maybe they had an off-day?
Weekday tea service from 2–5pm…
Overall, this was not a very enjoyable experience that I would repeat. The tea tower for two is about $32/person (including tax, service fee, and tip). The food was pretty good (and the cinnamon tea was delicious), but there were a lot more sweets than sandwiches. Lady Camellia, for example, has much higher value.
Case in point about the service needing additional support from management.
1) I booked a reservation well ahead of the event.
2) When I called to confirm, someone told me they actually don’t take reservations for afternoon tea.
3) When we got there, the hostess couldn’t find our reservation and only seated us after I presented my confirmation email and call history.
4) Our waiter was extremely unfamiliar with the menu. He kept trying to modify our order to cost more and/or provide less food. We had to keep politely correcting him by pointing at the menu.
5) They didn’t have enough tea menus, teapots, hourglasses, trays, or towers — and kept coming back to ask if they could take ours. We were only there for 75 minutes.
6) The waiter gave us the wrong directions on how long to steep the tea. I had to pull out my phone for the digital menu. If you don’t know, it’s better to say so than be wrong.
I gave extra points for the atmosphere of the place overall. It was really nice, we happened to be there during a late night jazz performance that I really enjoyed.
