They cook everything in the old pizza ovens that were left there from the precious place. They have great lighting too. Service was good but because they didn’t have many guests they were kind of chit chatty amongst themselves. Great place for a fancy date night!
The spinach dip with crab was delicious. We tried the costa briza plate, a revised California roll with tuna and salmon. The flavors were really fresh and well-balanced, though we did feel the rice could use a bit of fine-tuning. We also had a crab cake that was simply excellent, paired with a creamy mustard sauce and a kale salad that added a nice tangy balance.
Our party enjoyed a classic redfish Florentine, and a prawn salad with a standout Thousand Island vinaigrette.
The desserts were also a highlight: the tres leches cake was moist and not overly sweet, and the flourless chocolate cake was rich and perfect for chocolate lovers.
The staff were attentive and eager for feedback, and while the restaurant is definitely on the pricier side, likely due to its fine dining nature and location, we had a great experience and would love to come back.
Where it gets bad… we were hesitant but ordered the Affogato for dessert. Sadly, presentation failed in comparison to the other dishes… a weird, homely coffee mug. THEN, the waitress brings a shot glass to pour over the ice cream in a mug… we immediately stopped her because we knew it wasn’t the proper way to pour. The waitress insisted it would be ok… as liquored poured onto the table, we tried to stop her. We asked for another pour since the liquor went onto the table, she basically told us she couldn’t honor our request. The cup was dripping with alcohol on the bottom. She was kind enough to come back and wipe off the table smh lol….. definitely ruined the night. Dessert was mediocre at best.
I’ll go back once they pick better glassware to present the affogato and rework the kale salad. If you enjoy great seafood, ambience and wine selections… try it out.
First of all the atmosphere is incredible! It’s like a business casual chill vibe.
We got ribeye 10/10 great flavor and not chewy.
The red fish Florentine was good, nothing special but it’s good.
Now the sides are soooo good and I would come back just for them
Fried yuca 10/10 the sauce + the crispiness is amazing
Brocoli is fantastic, mashed potatoes, etc all best of the best
Only reason why 4 stars is because the prices are a little too high for the sides, chicken and fish.
The menu is tight and focused. With the land sea sushi concept there’s something for everyone. Our waiter was very nice. Plenty of people checked in on us. They were very patient because our party came in at all different times.
I ordered the Pearl Spritz. Its sake and pear liqueur. The pear didn’t come through. Instead it made the sake lighter and it was refreshing, a little bit sweet. I had the Salmon Sunset Roll. It was good though I found the large chunks of jalapeño to be a little too harsh. For my main I got the pan roasted salmon. The salmon was flaky, crisp, moist and cooked perfectly. The sauce was tasty. The mashed potatoes were REALLY good. The broccoli was overcooked and needed salt.
All my friends enjoyed their meals. 3 of them got the ribeye and they each reported that the steaks were cooked perfectly and one friend even said the steak was better than Amelia Gene’s!
There were a couple of disappointments. The menu was not really explained to us nor did we get any recommendations. That might have been because we all arrived at different times. There were problems with the service. Dishes getting mixed up, sides not described accurately on the menu. All of this was quickly resolved to our satisfaction. I think my biggest disappointment was that the restaurant did not offer my friend a glass of champagne or a small dessert on account that was her birthday. Seems standard in most nice restaurants when you’re choosing their business to host a celebration.
I paid $100 for a 1 cocktail, a sushi roll, entree plus 20% gratuity added to every check. We all agreed that we’re happy we tried Briza and we enjoyed ourselves but we did not feel compelled to return since there are so many restaurants to visit in Memphis. However, this place is worth a try.
Moving on to the entrees is where it started to fall apart. My wife ordered the noodle salad which, once again, lacked seasoning. The steak was supposed to be a prime filet, but it was painfully obvious from the fat and marbling that it was actually a ribeye cut into chunks. It also lacked salt.
The Redfish Florentine was mostly a disappointment. The fish itself was cooked great, but everything else on the plate was bland. The spinach was under the fish, so it just took on a fishy flavor with zero salt to balance it out. The broccoli had some Parmesan on top but was otherwise unseasoned. The potato puree had salt, but it wasn’t mixed through evenly.
Worse than the lack of seasoning was a chemical flavor that overpowered all the vegetables (except the potatoes). It tasted like they had been cleaned with something that wasn’t washed off properly.
Layout-wise, the main dining area is directly in front of the bar/kitchen. It creates a bad choke point where customers and servers are constantly running into each other, even when it isn’t crowded.
I understand new places have growing pains. I was looking forward to another nice restaurant in Memphis, but I can’t justify going back right now given the food quality vs. the price point. I might return to try the sushi eventually, but that’s about it.
