The appetizer duck was rich, tender, and full of flavor. For our mains, I had the shrimp pasta and my husband had the risotto; both dishes were absolutely delicious, clearly crafted with care and passion. The bartender recommended a bubbly to pair with our meal, and it was spot on, elegant and perfectly matched.
To finish, we enjoyed a tasty dessert that rounded out the evening perfectly. What truly made the night unforgettable was the warmth, kindness, and genuine joy of the staff. We felt celebrated, cared for, and truly welcomed.
Our hearts are full, and our lives were blessed to be served by such a wonderful team. Trattoria Delia gave us a memory we’ll cherish forever, we will absolutely be back.
Unfortunately, the food didn’t quite live up to the setting. We had three dishes — the gnocchi with peas and sausage, the tagliatelle Bolognese, and the pesto rigatoni — and all three were underwhelming. The flavors lacked depth and boldness, and while everything was cooked well, nothing stood out or felt memorable.
For the price and the atmosphere, we were hoping for a more refined and flavorful dining experience. Trattoria Delia has a lot going for it in terms of charm and service, but the food was average at best.
The service was impeccable—warm, attentive, and genuinely top-notch. For starters, the antipasto was simply amazing, setting a high bar for the courses to come. For my main, I opted for the gnocchi entree, and it was a revelation – perfectly cooked and incredibly flavorful. My dining companion had the filet, which they declared one of the best they had ever tasted.
Of course, no Italian meal is complete without tiramisu, and Trattoria Delia’s did not disappoint. It was utterly excellent; so good, in fact, that I savored every bite and happily took the rest home to enjoy later. While parking can be a bit of a challenge, requiring reliance on meters or a nearby garage, it’s a minor hurdle for such a memorable experience. This is definitely a superb choice for a special occasion, and I can’t wait to return.
You walk in the door and down the stairs and it’s like you are transported to a different time and place.
The decor is incredibly cozy and the fireplace makes it perfect.
The meal is spaced out properly and you aren’t rushed which is always a big thing for me. An Italian meal should be an experience not just a quick thing.
The menu is very well curated and there are always great specials.
The desserts are authentic and they have a great list of after dinner drinks.
I was impressed to look at the after dinner drink menu and see Punch Abruzzese on the menu.
I grew up with my grandparents drinking this stuff as it is originally made in Abruzzo near my grandmother’s home town of La Ville Santa Marie. As an adult I had never seen it in a restaurant until Trattoria Delia.
Of course I ordered one and it was as delicious as I remembered.
If you are in Burlington make Trattoria Delia your first stop for dinner.
The menu was small but the dishes were amazing. We had the antipasti masti (?) which is a huge charcuterie and could have been a meal unto itself. The pasta was delicious as was the braised short rib.
Whatever you get, you’ll love it.
That’s why this recent visit was so shocking. I had family in town and brought them here expecting a great night. From the moment we sat down, our server Avena M was extremely rude and passive-aggressive, to the point that it felt borderline hostile. What made it even worse was that we could clearly see her being genuinely warm and friendly to the other tables. Every other staff member we interacted with that night was very nice, which only highlighted how out of place her behavior was.
It completely ruined what should have been a special evening with my family. The only explanation I can come up with is that she was having a bad day and took it out on us because we were the youngest people in the restaurant. We were respectful the entire time and didn’t complain to anyone, because at that point we just wanted to leave as quickly as possible.
I’ve eaten at restaurants in over 10 countries and have never experienced service like this. This was, without question, the worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had, and that includes chain places you’d expect to be mediocre. I’m genuinely disappointed to be writing this, because we used to consider this one of our favorite spots.
Parking is rough. There is a garage down the street, otherwise meters on the various streets in area.
Great Italian cave vibe inside. The servers are top notch, probably the best in the area. The menu isn’t very big, but a good selection of drinks, wine, appetizers, pasta dishes, and meat/seafood/vegetarian mains.
The tiramisu was excellent . Cannolli was good.
Definitely a good spot to go out to for a special occasion.
Two years ago, we ordered their meats, and everything was phenomenal. This time, we decided to try their pastas, and it was a mistake. How an Italian restaurant of this caliber can mess up pasta is beyond me, but it was bad. My husband ordered the bucatini all’amatriciana (or maybe it was spaghetti?), and it was anything but amatriciana. The pasta was drowning in a tomato sauce that tasted like Chef Boyardee, the guanciale was barely noticeable, and the whole dish had an overly watery, acidic flavor. It was awful. I ordered the mushroom fettuccine, which was better but still not my favorite. They went way overboard with the cream, throwing off the balance completely.
For dessert, we ordered affogato, but our waitress walked away so quickly we didn’t even have a chance to specify whether we wanted it with amaro or limoncello. She didn’t ask, either, and ended up bringing ice cream without any topping (which was supposed to be included) and with a lackluster presentation.
To be fair, the appetizers were excellent. The duck confit and crostini topped with sardines were both perfectly prepared and absolutely delicious. The price-to-portion ratio for the appetizers was also great, and we still loved the cozy, romantic ambiance of the restaurant. But there’s no excuse for how disappointing the entrees were. For the price and reputation, we expected so much better.
Antipasti:
– Calamari Fritti: While beautifully presented, this dish didn’t stand out for me. The calamari was decent, but the flavors felt average and didn’t deliver the “wow” factor I was hoping for.
Pasta:
– Bucatini all’Amatriciana: A standout! The combination of guanciale, tomato basil pomodoro, and pecorino romano made for a flavorful, hearty dish with just the right touch of spice. The bucatini was cooked perfectly al dente, and every bite was satisfying.
– Rigatoni alla Bolognese: Another highlight of the evening. The veal and pork bolognese sauce was rich and creamy, perfectly complementing the rigatoni. The addition of Parmigiano Reggiano added depth and made this dish a comforting classic.
Overall, the pasta dishes were the stars of the evening, showcasing the kitchen’s attention to quality and traditional Italian flavors. While the calamari didn’t meet my expectations, I’d definitely return for the pasta and inviting atmosphere.
