I had heard of this restaurant for several years. Although not too far from my home it was not really on my radar. My misfortune. Bistro San Martin is a small restaurant located in the old downtown area of Arlington. A pleasant sight on it’s own. The restaurant features a just right menu of Northwest American, with a dash of European flair. I realize that description makes no sense, let me just say that the menu has a decent selection of dishes to fit every palate. This evening we tried a sweet potatoes soup, which had a unique and delicious flavor. We could taste all the ingredients, sweet potato, leeks, sweet corn and more. Fantastic. Pastry puff mushrooms with a tiny added sauce that was very very good. Halibut with an incredible risotto and sweet and sour salsa. Flat iron steak perfectly cooked and flavored. Delicious crab cakes. Too full for desert. Maybe next time. Our server was great. Very knowledgeable and helpful with suggestions. Decor is very nice. Prices reflect a fine dining experience. If you can, go now and go often.

We been going for a few years . Yesterday we celebrated our 10 year anniversary there and it was like every other time. Amazing as always. The steak and lobster I got was perfectly cooked. We don’t eat duck often but my husband gets this one that cook with peach and cherries he loves it. The strawberry rhubarb prawns are a must every time and we like the affogato ice cream for dessert, but also got a second one that is not always available the apple galette…it was so worth it. Leftovers today were amazing.

Excellent Service Food Atmosphere plus fine art on walls visible from every table. Bistro San Martin is our anniversary fav and is used whenever we are working in the Arlington area. One of the Best Premium quality restaurants we have found in NW Washington state. Friendly staff, fast service, excellent food – who could ask for more??

My wife and I went here for our wedding anniversary since we’ve been wanting to try this place, and it was amazing! We made reservations beforehand and were seated quickly. The atmosphere was cozy and they had a great wine selection. We had the cheese and fruit board for an appetizer (along with the complimentary bread). My wife had the steak and I had the roasted duck. Both dishes were quite plentiful and cooked to perfection. We also had dessert (she had the chocolate cake and I had the lemon crème brûlée) which were both amazing. The restaurant itself was a great experience and the chef made certain to thank us and each customer as they left. We’ll definitely return again!

Food and staff were amazing. Great flavors all around. Their fish was phenomenal and the naughty chocolate cake was a fun treat with a mix of sweet and spice. I didn’t take a pic of the seafood bisque but it was one of the best I’ve had!
Lovely atmosphere. That little flower holder is so creative. Neat touches.

Came here for our anniversary dinner and were slightly disappointed. Food is top notch but unfortunately the service was quite slow and inattentive during our visit, despite it not being super busy. Other patrons who appeared quite wealthy got more attention. The inside of the place could use a lot of updating as well. We were rained on by the A/C condensation at our table by the window. Is it enough to prevent a return visit, probably not, but this wasn’t the amazing experience we expected after hearing such stellar reviews about this place.

The reason I go out to eat is service, period. This place has the best service I’ve ever had. The seafood salad thing was good. The steak was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The “vegetable medley” was a couple bits of undercooked Broccoli and carrots, too tough to cut with a fork. The mashed potato portion was too small, but tasty. The chocolate pudding and vanilla ice cream dessert was also on the small side, and the ice cream was melted. The prices were too high to give this place another shot; more than $40 for a steak dinner? They can afford more and better cooked sides.

Exquisite! This is our new favorite restaurant in the area. The clams off the fresh sheet were prepared in a very unique and tasty way in a creamy red sauce with leeks. They were divine. The escargot were also great. Even their house baked bread and compound oil left us stunned. The New York strip with compound butter and Demi glace were to die for and the Maine lobster tail was tender and delicate. The service was also so friendly and quick! Your server prepares your drinks which results in them coming out quick! They also have fun wine flights so you can try a few at a time. The restaurant is very clean with interesting paintings and the kitchen is front and center for a good view. We can’t wait to go back!

It’s definitely got heart and a talented chef, but everything else is past its prime.
It was a busy night but still our reserved table of 5 waited over an hour and a half to be served.
I wanted my dish served slightly different but my plate was not modified as I asked the waiter. It’s okay to not allow alterations but please be honest about it instead of saying it’s possible and not.
The bathrooms are small and old, the whole building was loud, and the desert menu had bad formatting.
It probably has great history, but my experience was bad none the less.
For $60 a person I’d hope to leave wanting to come again, but I don’t.
