We had a nice dinner at the homey Colonial Lodge on 2/28/2026 after skiing in Bear Swamp State Forest. The fried perch with homemade mashed potatoes was delicious as was the cheeseburger with fries, and the prices are very reasonable, esp compared with nearby Skaneateles. Although the lodge is in a pretty rural part of the Finger Lakes it’s really not that far at all from Skaneateles, Cortland and Homer. After a nice hike or ski on the excellent trails of the adjacent Bear Swamp dinner and drinks at the lodge can top off a great day trip.

Inedible food! Looked like he cleaned the grill top with the omelette served up on a plate. Took one bite and the grit of grease and carbon build up mixed in crunched like sand on my teeth.
When we entered the place there was a dog food bowl at the door outside. I know now why as my food must have ended up in that when I left. Should be shut down before they kill somebody!

Phenomenal food.. perch, burgers, fried chicken, flatbread pizza etc.
If you’re in the finger lakes, the lodge is a must stop.

Used to be a good place in middle of nowhere. Rustic simple food, great after hiking or skiing Bear Swamp. But I haven’t seen any real improvements since a new owner bought the place over the last few years…. And the place severely needs renovations and someone in the kitchen who just cooks (and doesn’t try to be bartender and waiter too. Bottom line: drive on.

Must have an ant infestation. We had 2 large black dead aunts in our drinks and live ones on our plates of food. Owner was apologetic but seemed new to the food industry. I left with concerns he does not follow basic food safety precautions.

It was the best cooked steak I have ever ordered. Prices are great. Service was outstanding. Very welcoming and friendly people that make you feel like you have been there a thousand times, although it was my first time there. I really enjoyed myself. All customers talk to each other like old friends. Clean and a really good time.

Used to love coming here for a fresh perch sandwich. Stopped in yesterday with a party of 7 and was extremely disappointed. Food quality is lacking and that is a shame. We ordered 4 perch sandwiches, two were edible, one had a roll so hard it had to be sent back and one had a QUARTER sized mold spot on the top of the roll. The owner and cook came out, took the plate and stated the fish cooks quick and a fresh plate will be out shortly. Five minutes later they return the plate with a new roll and the same fish, tartar sauce and all. Nothing from the owner, other than taking my plate back. Sad, very sad for business. Will not return which is a shame. Portions are a quarter of what they used to be and five times higher. Unfortunately this one isn’t worth it. 2 stars for having cold drinks.
