One of us had a pulled pork sandwich and the other a bacon cheeseburger. Both of those were very good. The chips that came with it, however, were a little on the stale side and the street corn/elote was definitely not as fresh as you would get in a Mexican restaurant.
It was also very hard to have a conversation given the hard surfaces and live acoustics. It was difficult even to order. We wrapped up quicker than we had planned so we could go elsewhere to continue a conversation.
The 2nd time, not so much. We got there around 4:30pm on a Saturday to get there before the rush. The waitress seemed rushed and kept walking away while I was in mid sentence ordering drinks for my kids. I finally was able to order my kids drinks the third time she came by. We ordered an appetizer when we ordered the drinks. We waited quite a while for the appetizer and our waitress most of the time was standing by the bar. Every time we would make eye contact for me to signal her over for an update, she would turn and do something else. We also were given silverware that still had residue on them from I guess the previous use. I had to go talk to the greeter to get an update on our order and also get new silverware since our waitress would not check in with us.
Our main entrees arrived, and the appetizer was delivered a couple minutes after our main entrees. My wife ordered all chicken tacos but the entree had shrimp in them. She then had to wait longer for her meal and at this point we were just ready to go. We were given a $3 coupon for breakfast for the inconvenience.
If the communication were better by the waitress, I think this would have been a better experience. When the waitress is standing at the bar and a customer is waving you over for assistance, go check in with them.
We got the House made Chips and Dip ($8). We got the Smokehouse bean dip, the queso, black bean & corn salsa. The chips are very good and all the dips were excellent, however the smokehouse dip was my favorite, it’s fantastic. I ordered the BYO Bbq Wet Burrito ($16). It has pulled pork, shredded cheese, and smokehouse bean dip wrapped in a tortilla. It is then covered in bbq enchilada sauce. It was excellent. Nice complex flavors that combine perfectly. One of the people I was with ordered the Smokehouse Smash Burger ($18). This has a 6 oz house ground brisket & chuck patty, smoked cheddar & gouda, black pepper candied bacon, lettuce, tomato, and herb remoulade. It was stated to be very good. The other person I was with ordered the Campfire Crust Flatbread pizza ($18). The crust was declared to be excellent and the pizza itself was very good. One warning, the menu claims it feeds 2. Only if your bird eaters.
The service was excellent. Very friendly and efficient.
Overall a 5 star review. Would I return? Absolutely.
Good atmosphere with an open kitchen. The smell the moment you enter just gets you ready to eat right away.
We tried the brisket and pulled pork sandwich with baked beans and Mac n cheese. Both meats were very good and moist, and there’s a set of sauces on each table of various types (KC, Carolina, hot, sweet). We really liked all the sauces, wish they sold them bottled!
The baked beans are amazing, the Mac n cheese is average but we liked the non traditional cheese.
The service was fine, average for this type of establishment.
There is also a coffee and taco stand inside if you’re into a different type of fare. We didn’t try it, but we did see a few tacos come out and they looked good!
PS – Don’t sleep on the breakfast options! This is one of our very favorite top spots for breakfast, especially the tacos & pancakes.
