also a shout-out to the burnt ends which were *perfectly* cooked, and the salmon dip appetizer which was delicious and creamy and salmony without any other distracting flavors mixed in.
the wait staff were super nice and friendly and attentive. I liked that our waiter asked if we had any questions about the menu in advance of taking our orders, because I *did* have a question and this way I could ask it without feeling pressured to hurry up and order.
I also like that this place has huge windows in front so it gets a lot of natural sunlight (and there’s no risk of being blinded by the actual sun since the tall buildings across the street block it from view).
I don’t normally enjoy being at restaurants and the only reason I even came here is because a friend of a friend decided to treat a group of us to brunch. But I’m so glad I did, and I will *definitely* be coming back. I even told my out-of-state family “the next time you come to KC we *have* to go to third street social.”
edited to add this photo of the key lime pie I ordered for dessert. The lime flavor really came through with just a hint of sour citrusy tang, and was well balanced by the top layer which was rich and creamy and sweet-but-not-too-sweet. It might have been real cream. What most impressed me was the crust, which i think was made of brown sugar? It tasted like it was specifically crafted to enhance the overall flavor profile of the pie, not just to be an edible container for the filling.
Lee’s Summit location — wonderful experience
The service was absolutely wonderful, and the atmosphere was warm, clean, neat, and very welcoming. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted gently and graciously by the greeter and host staff. My children and I immediately felt comfortable.
Our server, Rick, was amazing. He made us feel truly welcome and cared for. His enthusiasm stood out, and he took time to explain the menu, talk about the food, and check in with us. The environment felt calming and inviting, the restaurant was spacious, and the food was great. I have nothing negative to say about the Lee’s Summit location — it was a very positive experience.
Main Street location — disappointing experience
Unfortunately, my experience at the Main Street location was very different. When we arrived, the greeting felt impolite and unwelcoming. The service was poor, and the waitress seemed uninterested in serving our table and more focused on the bar. Her energy felt dismissive, which made us uncomfortable receiving service from her.
I asked to speak with a manager (Jamie), but no one came out and I never received a call back after leaving a message. My daughter and I ultimately decided to leave because the service did not make us feel cared for or respected. We were told we couldn’t sit in a booth due to staffing, yet another guest who arrived after us was seated there. That added to the frustration and confusion. And since my daughter and I were sitting close to the bar the hostess went to the young lady at the bar explain to her that she has a table the young lady show clear frustration that she didn’t want to host, my daughter and I clearly heard her say” is there anyone else?” That’s when it came very clear to me that she didn’t want to serve us, and I didn’t want negative energy around my food.
Because of this experience, I would rate the Main Street location very low and would not recommend it based on the service we received.
Overall:
Lee’s Summit delivered an excellent, welcoming dining experience with great service and atmosphere.
The Main Street location, however, did not meet those same standards during our visit. I hope improvements are made there, because the brand clearly has the potential to provide outstanding hospitality.
Thank you 3rd Street Social in Lee Summit
