Good espresso drinks (the macchiato and cortado are my favorites), great service, comfortable seating areas. It was a beautiful day, so we sat in the back porch area. The cherry scone was great and the smoked salmon sandwich was excellent! While the decaf espresso shots weren’t quite dialed-in, I’d definitely visit again and would recommend Harless + Hugh Coffee.

We stop here on our way home from northern Michigan and love it! The coffee is high quality. I got a cortado for here and it was served in such a cool mug. The toast and pastries they serve are delicious. If you’re stopping in Bay City, stop here then hit the antique store around the corner.

Really nice coffee shop, caramel pumpkin latte was delicious and so was the almond butter toast. Great place to take a break in bay city.

In the past H&H has always been 6 out 5 stars for me. The atmosphere was pretty chill and the staff was friendly. Where they had shined was their coffee. I always felt as though they had the absolute best coffee in bay city. Today however, was not the usual experience I’ve held them in high regard for.
We all have crazy days, so I am always willing to excuse an off day when it comes to service and staff friendliness. But the atmosphere today was a bit bonkers. Overwhelmingly loud tables, and the conversations from other patrons were definitely not the friendliest. (Which I understand the staff aren’t responsible for customers) but what was really underwhelming today was the coffee, it was mid at best. Disappointing as I have always loved their coffee. Normally it has this silky smooth texture and rich flavor. It seemed almost watered down today or something.
I’ll be back in the future, hopefully for a different experience, one similar to those I have had in the past.

I’ve been slipping into this place most mornings before work and… yeah, it’s basically therapy with espresso.
Rustic wood floors, soft leather chairs, and the kind of lighting that makes your soul exhale. Add in the smell of fresh coffee and the sound of chill music — it’s the adult version of a security blanket.
Every corner feels curated but lived-in. Like a Pinterest board that grew up and stopped trying too hard.
The staff? Chill and kind. The drinks? Always on point.
And outside? String lights and wood fencing like you’re about to get proposed to by a guy in a denim jacket.
If you need a spot to breathe, read, think, or just escape Michigan chaos for 20 minutes — this is it.

The options for coffee, chai tea make this a cozy place to sip and talk. Pastries look awesome and some are mindful of personal restrictions. They have books with different titles for purchase as well as other bottles of drinks. Staff is always friendly and smiling to greet you. They love to small talk while serving and also remember you from times before. Nothing upscale, just goods drinks and good people. A better atmosphere than a national chain, and I think better products.

Nice people only! From the barista who crafted my custom latte based on her recommendations to the kind customer who sat next to me, everyone here is NICE. The latte and veggie quiche were excellent, but still am most impressed by humans being good. This place takes you back to what local coffee shops should be. Can’t recommend enough!

We were about to hit Bay City on our road trip and my friend mentioned that she’d heard some of the best coffee shops in the entire state of Michigan was there. And that’s how we made our way to Harless + Hugh, an adorable coffee shop with a chic minimalist/scandanavian aesthetic and delicious espresso drinks and sweet treats. My iced chocolate latte and gingerbread cookie were fantastic. I also got some of their beans to take home with me. Definitely a great stop if you’re in the area!

Such a calming atmosphere. The wood burning fire place soothes the senses with the warm scent of hardwood. Live plants bring a calming to the space. Skilled staff crafts the best drinks and delights. You get what you pay for, the prices aren’t cheap, but are competitive with other cafes. The value is in the experience. In my opinion this is the best coffee in the Tri Cities, if not the whole state.
