I first discovered this small Mexican restaurant through UberEats when I ordered lunch one afternoon. It’s a neat, cozy spot on Summer Avenue — simple but feels authentically Mexican. I ordered the carne asada platter, and when I got home, the food was still hot and fresh. The thinly sliced steak was a little on the tougher side but flavorful and well-seasoned. It came with Mexican rice, bean paste, and a fresh salad with crisp lettuce, plus grilled onions and peppers that were absolutely delicious. Their house-made salsa was excellent — and that’s usually how I judge a good Mexican restaurant!

The portions were generous, easily enough for one person or to share. Everything tasted fresh, so I was really happy with the meal. I enjoyed it so much that my husband and I decided to visit the restaurant in person the next evening for dinner.

We started with complimentary chips and salsa — again, the salsa was fantastic. We both ordered the carne asada platter again, and this time it was even better — freshly prepared, tender, and full of flavor. Another friend tried four tacos (two al pastor and two chorizo). The tacos were tasty, though not the best I’ve had, but still solid. Their green salsa added a great kick to everything.

We ended the meal with their house-made flan, which was incredible — smooth, creamy, and perfectly sweet.

Overall, this place is a gem for anyone who loves authentic Mexican food. Everything is fresh, flavorful, and made with care — and whatever you do, don’t miss the flan. It’s the perfect finish to a great meal.

Tucked away, smack in the middle of “malfunction junction” in what looks like a decade long road construction zone is a little Mexican restaurant. I found this place in my adventures in memphis as I was holding up getting repairs done. The breakfast here specifically titas breakfast was amazing. As I ate I watched as the chef worked on lunch items think I can’t wait to come back!

Travelling back from Virginia to Texas we were looking for some Mexican food. We happened to find this establishment. Now if you know anything about Texas, Tex-Mex is not something to compare with. So of course we were hesitant to say the least. Ordered a chicken burrito with hashbrowns, eggs and avocado for myself, and chilaquiles for my beautiful wife.
I’m a huge fan of crispity-crunchity hashbrowns that most places don’t take the time to learn or appreciate this delectable side dish. But La Palapa aced it! The 10 pound burrito was simply amazing with all kinds of flavor competing for my attention. Michelin star for sure.
The chilaquiles were also bursting with well rounded seasoning that was a perfect match.
With the staff being so pleasant, and the cute establishment, this for sure was a winner in our books.

Wasn’t expecting much but was very surprised that the menu at 8:30 in the morning was the WHOLE menu. Ordered the tongue, tripe and barbacoa tacos. Chipotle should definitely stop serving barbacoa because it was not salty at all here. All 3 tacos were so damn good. The lady that works there gave me some green sauce and it made the tacos and chips taste even better. Will definitely be back.

Hidden gem on Summer. We had a chicken burrito and a chicken torta. Both were delicious and filling. Sorry the pictures don’t do the food justice. Can’t wait to try the breakfast!

A mini La Guadalupana (seemingly owned and managed by the same restaurant group) – similar offerings with a more condensed menu and smaller building. Still a great place to indulge in Mexican food. Recommended

A lot of Mexican restaurants claim to have “authentic cuisine” but they don’t. La Palapa truly offers authentic and fresh food. Great menu selections that are hard to find anywhere else. My personal choice was menudo soup, it was delicious! Ten stars as far as I’m concerned. Felicitaciones al chef!

The good old internet bait a switch. Spend a certain amount for a free item. Only to have the item size of the free item manipulated.

Reason given it’s a promotion. Purposefully misleading is all I hear.
