I had woken up at 4 in the morning for an early flight back home, and got into Fremont around 1130. I had no groceries when I returned home and I hadn’t eaten all day.
I ordered online to pick up from Kaosamai right when they opened at 12, and as I was walking over from my apartment, they called me to tell me that although they had decided to close for super bowl Sunday, they had made my food. I walked in the back door and they happily gave me a box full of delicious pork fried rice. They did not need to do that. This commitment to hospitality and community is frankly something that many establishments in Seattle are desperately wanting for. I am saying this as someone who has worked in the service industry in multiple parts of the country for the last 20 years.
Every time I have interacted with any of the family members who own the restaurant, they have inspired me to feel proud to be living in Fremont. This restaurant is an embodiment of the joy food can cultivate and the togetherness we all need to embrace.
Thank you for being my neighbor.
I’ve been meaning to make this review for awhile..
This is my favorite Thai restaurant in the city, you walk in and The atmosphere is warm, with live plants, lots of natural light and beautiful Thai decor. The staff are friendly and vigilant. And their dishes are authentic, with lots of REAL fresh veggies.
They serve an array of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks which I appreciate as someone who’s sober with non-sober friends! And I’ve been to some of the restaurant events including makers markets & cookie decorating for the holidays.
Their outdoor deck area also has heaters which is a plus
Overall I love this place, their food and the vibes. They care about the community and the food they serve. Thank you Kaosamai!!
The waitress who is affiliated with the family with the “WOKE tattoos” is so rude, entitled and does not represent well customer service. My friend group of 10 have been really mistreated by her three different times now. She is really calculating and super passive aggressive. She seems to get really irritated fast if we simply ask for extras like a side of curry. Sometimes we didn’t know that we needed the side of curry until we received the food but it’s not like we weren’t going to pay for it. Each time she seats all of us, my stomach starts to turn and she makes me anxious. I understand that artists can hold a lot of emotions but hers is a tad excessive in this specific scenario.
Maybe she thinks she can treat all the dining customers a certain way because she runs art shows at night at the restaurant. It just saddens me what the place is becoming.
The quality of the food has gone downhill and prices sky high. I think they focus too much on decorations too when they need to hire better employees to represent their brand. I used to tell everyone to come here and go to all their food trucks now I go to a new place and they don’t have 20% service charge for take out. Sometimes an end to era you hold onto so hard for your nostalgia gives you a new beginning to try other experiences.
It’s family-run so they: hosted a gingerbread-house-making party in December, decorate like crazy for Halloween and Christmas, make their own ice cream because Tammy loves ice cream, have plants galore because they love plants, etc. Just a sweet family-run place.
And the food! Flavorful, reasonably priced, and with generous portions. Recommendations: Ba Me Hang, Garlic Pepper, and Pad See Ew.
This is what I want in a restaurant: good food, good value, great people.
