We had:
Pork Street Tacos and Dirty Bird Sandwich and Cajun Tots, Built for Speed, Hoppy Giant
Excellent street tacos would not change a thing. Cajun tots were good, but over fried.
Candra: Pulled Pork Nachos, x2 Mela Orange Peach Mimosa, Excellent would not change a thing.
Loved the 30 tap selection and specials running for them.
The fixtures and ducts were dusty. The bartender was attentive and very helpful.
Food took 45 minutes, which is meh.
Love the decor and wooden accents in the building.
Fantastic place to land for football and pub trivia; though if you’re not an Eagles fan, beware!
If you enjoy pork, this is the place to get your fill.
Food is generally decent, but inconsistent; I also wish there were more non-mammal items, but my downgrade on stars is more for not being able to reliably enjoy any particular items. Completely depends on who’s in the kitchen, and how busy it is. Tacos are probably their most consistent options.
The inside is a surprise. The exterior looks a tad foreboding, the windows dark, but from the inside, they fill the room with natural light. It’s a good feel for a bar, unusual, healthy.
As a tenderfoot, I am a little lost at first. I take a seat for awhile until I finally find the sign that says, Order at the Bar, I suppose once you know you know, but I get the feeling I might have sat for quite awhile.
I opt for the club sandwich with fries and look around. The bar tender/waitress is nice, I like the two barrels up on the wall… I get it, double barrel. They have a pool table and a couple a gentlemen are having a pleasant game along with their lunch.
And now to the the crux of the matter. The food. The Club Sandwich is a solid B. Not the best I’ve had and not the worst. Not really skimpy, but certainly not huge for the price. A good B sandwich. My first bite of the fries and I think, “I’m rescued!” I think, “Perfect!”
A great crunch! But then something happens and the perfection starts to slip. There is something a little off about the texture for me the more I eat.
And then I get it. The inside of the fries are completely soft. Like mashed potatoes. Light crunch on the outside and totally soft on the inside. Either these are made from a mix or they are doing something to them.
After the the first few fries they start feeling a bit insipid. Ok, they’re not bad. I’d still give them a solid B. And if I had spent an exhausting day shopping at Walmart and then had to have my battery exchanged I would absolutely stop and grab a bite at Double Barrel TapHouse, but there are so many other places in town that have A+ food and if I was going out for an event, I’d probably go elsewhere. It’s an honest solid 4 star. There’s nothing wrong with that.
Now on the other hand the bartender was a full 5 star. Just saying.
But too bad the service is good only for regulars. My first and only time in there, the bartender was so engrossed in conversation that she made that the priority not serving somebody a beer or food. If I didn’t need to pick up my son from soccer, I wouldn’t even have taken a second bite of the burger. It was cooked to burnt level, so there were very few flavors presenting themselves. It was like eating charcoal. The tots were crispy but way over salted and this is coming from a salt lover. Don’t waste your time I could’ve gotten a much better burger for half the price from Burgerville.
We walked in and the place was less than half full, 10 people standing in line (THEY DONT have waitstaff – you gotta go up to the bar and order – then you still tip?). There were 4 empty tables stacked with dishes and dirty. So we waited for a few to watch what was going to happen then we left and went down to the 99 Saloon. Sorry Double, you’re done. I guess we’re at a place in time where you can’t attract enough folks to work there & if that can’t be fixed – then it’s only downhill from there. I kept going back because I remember a different time when it wasn’t like this.
