First hot meal in 4.5 weeks for this trucker and it did not disappoint one bit! Pretty large portions, clean and friendly. Staff was extremely nice. I didn’t even have time to finish reading the placemat before my food was brought out to me. I ordered “The Grizz”
without pancakes and a hot coffee. Total was $23.

They did excellent taking care of 40 people for our car club White Elephants Christmas party! Staff was outstanding, kind, courteous and very efficient. Orders came out timely hot, fresh, large portions and very tasty. Cheers to all involved in making it a memorable evening!

You won’t believe what’s happened to the old Johnson’s corner, the famous landmark in Colorado! It’s now a Black Bear Diner! I’ve been to a few Black Bear diners in Northern California and Arizona, and they’ve all been pretty great. But this one stood out. It’s got a bigger space, a really cool atmosphere, and fast and friendly service. So far, it’s definitely my favorite Black Bear diner. The place is spotless, and the service was fast and friendly. Our server, Caleb, was amazing! And the restaurant manager, Toya, went from table to table to make sure everything was perfect. I will be going there again in the near future. As with all other Black Bear Diners, I recommend this one too!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Black Bear Diner is the kind of place that reminds you why dining out can be so special. From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed like family and surrounded by a cozy, rustic atmosphere that just makes you feel at home. The portions are huge (bring your appetite!) and the food is always hot, fresh, and full of flavor.

What stood out most to me was how much care goes into every plate—from the fluffy pancakes and hearty breakfasts to the savory comfort food dinners. And don’t even get me started on the desserts… absolutely worth saving room for!

The staff is friendly, attentive, and genuinely makes you feel like you’re a regular, even if it’s your first visit. Whether you’re grabbing breakfast, brunch, or dinner, you’ll leave satisfied, smiling, and probably already planning your next trip back.

Honestly, this place speaks for itself—if you want a true diner experience with food that never disappoints, Black Bear Diner is it. Once you try it, you won’t even feel the need to look anywhere else.

I’ll start with the good here. The service was great. Patricia was both attentive and friendly. She was accommodating with our requests and very polite.

The atmosphere was okay. Kind of bland in the decor department and it was easy to tell they just overlayed the black bear theme over the pre-existing restaurant. Kind of wish they took more time to make it unique.

The food was kind of where things fell apart. The basics were cooked okay. The burger was good as was the french toast, but the details lacked. The mushrooms on the burger were undercooked as were the fried onions which came out soggy. The sweet potato fries had no dipping sauce and the chicken fried steak seemed like it spent quite a while under a heat lamp. The place setting states leftovers are encouraged and that the portions should be big to fill their plates, but this was not the case. No leftovers here.

Overall I’d say this place has some growing to do to live up to the brand name. I had big hopes but was sadly disappointed.

We went in for a late dinner (830ish), and from the reviews, I was hoping to avoid the “crowded” atmosphere… we did. Aside from our party of 4, there were 3 other tables and 3 or 4 single men at the counter area. It took a while to get our food ordered. Our waitress was friendly enough, but not very good. She did try, though! There was a large gap between our drink order and our food order, and Im not quite sure why. The menu was HUGE… like, way too many options huge. It made it hard to decide, and maybe that’s why she gave extra time before taking our order. Once we received our food, she was gone until check time. Which was fine. There were no complaints or issues. The food was pretty good! Each of us ordered from a different facet (breakfast, lunch, sandwich, dinner). They also had “smaller” portions available, which I took advantage of. The portions were very satisfying in size for the men in the group. That’s much appreciated because who wants to leave hungry?! For the four of us with drinks, it was $77 before tip. Not terrible, given the quality and portion sizes. Overall, I would say give it a shot. The service isn’t gonna be as good as the food, but….

My husband and I chose to wait a couple of weeks before trying this restaurant. I have been looking through the reviews and first impressions that people have had and kept an open mind.

We went in at lunch time on a Tuesday. We waited 5-10 minutes to be seated and there was a line of others waiting for their turn. Observing the behavior of other guests, we saw a few parties berating a staff member on how they will never come back due to “receipt issues” and I would assume their idea of “poor service”.

Our server was kind and we did not wait long for drinks or for our order to be taken. We overheard that they were short staffed in the kitchen which lead to the food service taking the brunt and being backed up. To mitigate this issue they were limiting the amount of people they sat at tables so the kitchen could catch up, which to me is understandable. Our food did not come out “quickly” but did come out within a reasonable time. The food was hot and tasted great.

I did notice that the hostess and our waitress came off very timid, but kind. I am really hoping that this was due to their personalities and not because they have had people be rude to them or yell at them. Our waitress was seemingly loaded with tables and was also bussing the tables in her section. She served us well and did a great job.

Some of the behavior that I have observed from customers toward staff is less than nice. People need to act with a little more grace toward fellow human beings, especially those in the food service industry.

My husband and I live in the area and plan on coming back and trying more of the menu. To others, I would definitely stop in and give Black Bear Diner a try. Please keep and open mind to time frame as they may be busy or shorthanded.

This was my second and last time here unfortunately. My second time here was worse than the first time, the service is slow and so is the food and it comes out cold and subpar. The omelette had cold unmelted cheese inside, the English muffin had a gross garlic taste to it. The toast wasn’t even toasted and the hash browns are inedible. The only nice things I have to say about this place is that our waiter was very friendly despite taking a while to take our orders and fill our drinks. And the steak is decent if it came out still warm. I do not recommend this place, hopefully it gets better for the people that do come here.

As usual always quick and friendly service at Black Bear Diner. Brittney however made this visit so much better. She’s a true people person making you feel much more welcomed and doing anything she can to make your experience as best as possible.
You don’t even have to ask for anything she’s attentive and quick to assist. She seems like she’s always going above and beyond to keep the customer satisfied, I can see why return customers love to come back during her shift. I wish more waiters and waitresses were as good as she is. Will definitely be returning to this location when I’m in Colorado again.
