This was my first experience at Cipollina which was a neighborhood Italian bistro in a close knit neighborhood. Parking was extremely limited and I can predict at night use ride sharing.

We were nicely greeted when we entered the establishment and found a table. Our server was very professional and courteous. It was hard to determine which to try first where all looked good but selected the Pan Seared Red Fish. This was a great place to dine during the day and has a romantic setting for night. They said everything here was freshly made so was a bit excited to try my wife’s pasta.

The Red Fish was beautifully prepared and had some roasted cauliflower, roasted corn, heirloom grape tomatoes, and castelvetrano olives around it. The fish tasted spectacular and had wonderful flavor. I tasted the pasta and it was definitely tasted like it was made in-house where had buttery flavor. I was impressed with Cipollina.

Our party of six enjoyed an incredible meal at Cippolina a few nights ago. It was a bustling evening, and the staff was welcoming, cheerful and very helpful. We were excited to try a variety of the restaurant’s gorgeous dishes, from appetizers to mains to desserts. Gracious server, Townes, and the kitchen staff flowed our dishes perfectly, and the charismatic and attentive manager, Zach, recommended the best wine. While we loved everything, our favorites were the garlic knots and meatball appetizers; the grilled rockfish, bolognese with brisket, and spaghetti and meatball entrees. We tried one of every dessert and they were all deliciously outstanding. (Even if you think you have no stomach space left, we recommend getting dessert anyway). The restaurant itself is beautiful and inviting. It was fun to watch the chefs at work in the kitchen. We left the restaurant floating on cloud nine; we’d enjoyed a very special dining experience. I can’t wait to return to Cippolina on my next visit to Austin!

While visiting Austin, we were having trouble finding anyplace to park. Everywhere we went, there weren’t lots, the lots were full, or our truck didn’t fit in the spots.

I did a sarcastic Google search along it for relatively inexpensive restaurants with ample parking. That led us to Cipollina.

It’s a great little place that’s tucked in with a few other places. We found a parking spot immediately, so we went in.

We were seated and ordered a pizza to share— they were able to do half and half for us. Very cool. My half was the prosciutto, which was excellent!

We decided to go for dessert. Hubs chose the goat cheesecake and I had creme brulee. Both were delicious!

Our waitress was really kind (which is more than I can say for Hank’s—we found parking there, but left with how rudely my husband was spoken to by the waitstaff ), and service was prompt.

I’m not sure we’ll ever come to Austin again, but if so, we’ll likely come back to Cipollina.

Cipollina is a true hidden gem in Austin, nestled in a small shopping complex next to a grocery store, giving it the feel of your friendly neighborhood Italian spot. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed, and the warm, inviting ambiance set the perfect tone for the evening. Opting to sit outside, we were able to fully enjoy the laid-back atmosphere, complemented by attentive and friendly service.

The food was just as delightful as the setting. To start, the garlic knots were an absolute must-try—soft, flavorful, and elevated by the touch of green garlic. They were the perfect way to kick off the meal. The fennel salad was another standout, fresh and vibrant with a great balance of flavors.

While the burrata dish didn’t quite hit the mark for us—it was served pre-split, losing some of its signature creaminess, and the combination of grilled shishito peppers, tomatoes, and bread didn’t quite come together harmoniously—we appreciate the creativity behind the dish and hope they refine it.

Now, for the real stars of the night: the Tagliatelle Alfredo was nothing short of spectacular. The noodles—oh my god—just melted in my mouth. The sauce could have used a touch more garlic, but the sheer perfection of the pasta more than made up for it. And to end on a high note, the crème brûlée was flawless. Perfectly balanced in sweetness with a crisp, hard shell—an absolute delight!

Beyond the amazing food, Cipollina is well-priced with generous portions, making it a spot we’d happily return to. If you’re in Austin and craving a comforting yet elevated Italian meal, this place is a must-visit!

We had a 5:00 pm reservation for a party of six. As soon as we sat down, we were told we would need to leave at 7:00 pm because another party was coming in. While we understand that restaurants often operate on a two-hour table turnover, the way this was handled was uncomfortable and excessive.

Our server was very sweet and apologetic, but over the course of the meal we received four separate reminders from four different staff members about the 7:00 pm cutoff. It created constant pressure and took away from what was meant to be a relaxed evening with friends we hadn’t seen in a long time.

When we were paying, a man who appeared to be a manager told us we needed to leave immediately because the next party had arrived. His tone was abrupt and rude. When I said he was being rude, he responded loudly and angrily while walking away, saying, “Whatever, yeah yeah, I’m so rude.” I was honestly astounded by this behavior.

One staff member apologized to us and said they didn’t want to lose their job, which strongly suggests this pressure and approach are coming from leadership or ownership.

Unfortunately, the food also disappointed, the salad was bland and the pizza was soggy.

We were six friends dining together, and between us and our partners, this represents twelve people who will not be returning. This is especially sad because we’ve been coming to Cipollina since it first opened and never expected to be treated this way or served such mediocre food.

What happened, Cipollina?

Wow! I have been on an Italian food kick, and this was incredible. The ambiance is so lovely. The servers are all so nice and genuine. I sat at the bar, and I really enjoyed my time. I ordered an off the menu special of mushrooms and barrata followed by bolognese and golden beets. Everything was so tasty, fresh, and refined.
