This review is of the cafe. Had the wonderful Fig Pro Quo sandwich with excellent potato salad. My dining companion really enjoyed the tomato soup with salmon spread and crackers. Beer and wine. Great friendly quick service.

Food is all local and fresh, and everything is very good! If there is one thing you have to get, it’s the grilled cornbread! I’d go back just for that! Limited seating. Don’t expect this to be a fast meal. They make sure each meal is prepped fresh and tasty, so they do take a little longer to get food out. But it’s worth it!

FIVE-STARS for The Caboose Market & Cafe in Ashland, Virginia! What an excellent casual dining break on our long North Carolina to Maryland drives to visit the grandkids! Check out our delicious lunch in the photos (excluding our three ‘to die for’ homemade cookies devoured on the road)! The menu includes salads, soups, sandwiches, and more, plus a beer & wine shop. Indoor and outdoor seating are available. Ashland is five miles north of Richmond on I-95 at exit #92. Go to the railroad tracks, and you’re there! By the way, you’ll probably have a train going by while you’re there! On our last visit, we ate outdoors. What a thrill! Five trains rolled by during our dinner! See photos!

Ladies night out and highly enjoyable. Morgan was attentive & assisted the 4 of us first timers. The environment was clean and the food was served on time considering the busyness of the evening. I loved my chopped up (sub. Beef patty) but note for first timers: the pink is pink! I loved it; my Mom not so much. It was quickly fixed to her liking and she’d order again. My sister’s pork chop meal was the highlighted shared taste of the table.
Would highly recommend having patience with the wait time. Well worth it.
The soapbox derby car (see photo) was a pleasant flash of nostalgia back to my childhood when my siblings participated!

I went to The Caboose last night with my family and had an enjoyable time. Despite being busy, the service was fast, and we didn’t have to wait too long for the food. I’m a picky eater, so I ordered the Caboose Burger, but plain. I got exactly what I asked for. It was very yummy. Not only did the burger taste great, but it had a good texture as well. The bun was soft, but somewhat firm, and the meat was tender, but not too mushy. My family had the Side Green Salad, Chicken Caesar Salad, and Grilled Cornbread. They enjoyed their meals, too. I’d also like to add that the restaurant was clean, and the staff were friendly. I’ll definitely be coming back here soon and recommend others to check this place out!

Such a great little spot. Vegetarian option, vegan options, full meat options who are ethically sourced. Great service, great friendly folks working there, beautiful plating, just a wonderful wholesome atmosphere.

Legitimately the best hamburger I’ve ever had. This place restored my faith in being able to get a good burger again. Great atmosphere, specialized menu selections without being super overwhelming or stretching themselves too thin. Dakota waited on me and my wife and was super personable and attentive the entire time. Can’t say enough good things about this spot – you just need to go and see for yourself ASAP!

We stayed in Ashland for a wedding and had a wonderful lunch here. The staff was very friendly and serviced our group of 10 with ease. Nice menu of salads and sandwiches. The cornbread was a nice treat! Glad we selected Caboose.

This was a great find. It’s a wine and beer market up front and a small restaurant in the back. They have some tables outside. There are a few tables inside and you can sit at the bar. It was very busy mid week at lunch time when we visited. We enjoyed the food and had a local beer. They also do take out.

Cute place with lots of charm! My parents are obsessed with this spot, so naturally while I’m in town they force me to come here. Pretty worth it though. The restaurant is attached to a wine shop, and both are fantastic. The small plates and meals are tasty. I got bbq cause I’m obsessed with it, and their local flavors were delightful. For a cafe type of setting, they’re definitely doing something right!
