JL’s Pizza and Sports Bar – Food Ordering

Update. I have tried about 40% of the menu now lol. Their food is freaking amazing. The mini burgers, 3 taco dinner, 21 shrimp and the ravioli are my go to. The ribtips and burgers are reliable and good. And their pizza is on a level by itself. Love their food. I order from here at least once a week lbva
We were a party of 4 and arrived at 11:15 am on a Friday morning and were amongst the 1st to be seated. Our waitress arrived, gave us menus and left for about 10 minutes without asking for our drink order. When she did return, the drink order was taken and, although we were ready to give her our main order, she left abruptly. After another wait a food runner brought us our drinks. More waiting and then our waitress arrived and took our orders. I asked to substitute steamed vegetables instead of french fries but our waitress said that wasn’t possible, although that was never an issue on previous visits. By this time it was nearly noon and the place was packed, with customers who had arrived after us already receiving their orders. It did appear our waitress was the only server on the floor and all tables were occupied so I knew things could get lengthy and her attention to us would be limited.
Finally our food arrived. I ordered the fish and chips and, by comparison to other visits, my dish was underwhelming: The fish was heavily battered to conceal the measly portion of fish, the fries were about a 1/2 portion and the cole slaw (advertised as a side dish) was in a small ramekin the same size that the tartar sauce was served, weighing I’m guessing about 1 ounce. By comparison my friend ordered a burger and her cole slaw came in a soup cup and was probably 6-8 ounces. My wife’s order also had a mix-up (she ordered a side salad for her panini but was given onion rings) and when this was pointed out to our waitress she made no effort to correct the order. Instead she just mumbled something about being busy and left. I flagged her down again asking for malt vinegar but she said they didn’t have any which, again, is not consistent with previous visits where vinegar was brought to the table whenever fish and chips are ordered.
Finally after finishing our food and paying the bill we left shortly before 1 pm or, about 1 hour 45 minutes after we arrived. That’s too long by about 1 hour for a “quick lunch”.
Lastly, our server (black hair and black glasses) was trying to be nice but seemed surly at times with her hyper-active demeanor and abrupt communication. Given the circumstances of flying solo I suppose this is understandable so I cut her some slack because the place was packed. This does raise questions about adequate staffing in general though.
I’ll give JLs the benefit of the doubt and rationalize they were just having an off day but do suggest they address their portion size and substitution policies as well as server training on matters of common courtesy. They also need to hire more servers. I’ll give them one more chance given past favorable visits but if this is the new normal I’ll just go elsewhere in the future. Good luck with the improvements: You can do better.
