We had a truly spectacular experience at Monte. It saddens me to see the obvious spam reviews.

That said, every expertly prepared dish showcased Chef Martins talent. An amalgam of flavor and art came through all 8 courses.

What Monte is doing is truly spectacular and unlike anything else in Salt Lake. I hope they get the Michelin recognition they deserve!

My husband and I came here for my Valen birthday and were extremely disappointed! We have covered all of the lower 48 states and have eaten at a multitude of restaurants ranging from your local mom and pop dive all the way up to extremely high-end meals. Monte hit well on presentation, service and atmosphere however the food flavor was extremely underwhelming and at times almost inedible. We got the eight course tasting menu. Our top favorites were the homemade sourdough bread, the pallet cleanser drink made with Anaheim Peppers , cucumber and kiwi, and the best course of all was the dessert which came with a smoked goat cheese gelato which was definitely named wrong because it’s far from gelato (I’ve been to Italy) and you could not taste the smoked goat cheese it was primarily cinnamon ice cream but still tasted good. A few of the worst dishes was the lamb loin that was nearly raw and extremely chewy so chewy that I could not even finish that course ( my husands lamb was 30% fat so that turned his 3 bites into 2), the venison tartar had zero texture or flavor and just tasted like raw ground hamburger. The butter poached scallop also lacked not only seasoning but texture in the dish as well. The take on the French onion soup was also underwhelming. The last dish I can think of off the top of my head was the charcoal beignet stuffed with rabbit and that was probably the worst bite of the night! It only tasted like charcoal that’s it no seasonings, no flavor, no texture it was mushy I would never put that thing in my mouth again LOL. And to be honest without pulling up my pictures which I will attach to the review there’s a few dishes I don’t even remember. I did spend the extra $80 on the wine pairing which for me personally was the best part of the entire meal every wine was delicious however , it was advertised as 2 oz per wine but being a wine drinker they were definitely only 1 oz pours with the final wine being an actual 2 ounce pour ( but it’s a shame that none of that was produced by the chef himself but out of a bottle. Also keep in mind they do charge $10 for bottled water after all was said and done are total bill was $600 and absolutely not worth it!!! We’ve spent well over that amount at La Caille in the past and we’re much happier. If you’re going purely for the art and the visual of your dish then this is a great spot , if you’re going for flavor and texture I would probably look elsewhere. I had seen a few reviews on Instagram which is how I heard about this place (from some of the Foodies in the valley) saying that this will be Utah’s first Michelin star restaurant and I couldn’t disagree more and will definitely rethink the reviews I get from social media.

Our experience at monte was very good! Service and presentation were top tier and comparable to michelin restaurants I’ve dined at, with staff being very welcoming, attentive, and knowledgeable on all courses and wines. The food was nice, but a couple courses left us wanting something more. The pasta course was in my opinion disappointing. The raviolis were nice, but the broth wasn’t as flavorful as it could have been, and without any other components, it was just too simple of a dish. It didn’t impress me. The same with the dessert; it felt like an afterthought. It was showy but with no substance or complexity. I’d rather have a more elevated and thought out dessert than add caviar on top of gold leafed chocolate. That’s not to say it was all bad, but I just wanted more. Another component, another flavor, something with more passion. I appreciate they were able to accommodate for my allergy (nuts) and received the dessert without the tart shell. That being said, my boyfriend received the regular dessert offering and felt the same way. Still lacking something. The rest of the courses were very nice, the snacks at the beginning were perfect, the soup was flavorful and creative. I feel overall the flavor falls behind the presentation which is disappointing. That being said, this is still one of if not the best restaurant I’ve dined at in Utah. I feel with a couple improvements, this restaurant could be michelin worthy.

My boyfriend and I celebrated our anniversary at Monte SLC last night, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. From start to finish, everything felt thoughtful, warm, and beautifully executed.

The menu is so creative — every dish tells a story — but the lamb beignet and the sweet potato pasta completely blew us away. Both were bursting with flavor and texture, so inventive and comforting at the same time. We also enjoyed the deer and wagyu, which were equally impressive and showcased such artistry in preparation and plating.

We opted for the wine pairing, which complemented the courses perfectly — each pour was intentional and enhanced the entire experience.

The space itself is cozy yet elevated, and what really made the night special was the husband-and-wife duo who own and run the restaurant. Their kindness, passion, and personal touch radiate through every detail — you can tell they truly love what they do.

Monte is easily one of Salt Lake’s most special dining experiences.

My husband and I had such a great experience at Monte! The food was absolutely fantastic. The gnocchi was hands down my favorite , but honestly, everything we tried was spot on. You can tell the Chef really knows what they’re doing.
What really made the evening, though, was the service. The team was super friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. And the cherry on top was the handwritten thank-you note they gave us at the end—it’s those little details that really make a place stand out.
If you’re in Salt Lake City, I definitely recommend checking it out. Great food, great vibes, and a team that goes the extra mile!

Over the past 36 years, my wife and I have dined at Michelin star restaurants throughout Europe and Asia. We have also dined at all of the fine dining restaurants in Utah, including Log Haven, Urban Hill, Table X, Glitretind, Goldener Hirsch, Bambara, etc. No high end restaurant in Utah is even close to being in the same league as Monte. They are in a class of their own relative to fine dining establishments in Utah. They are also clearly the only restaurant of Michelin star caliber in Utah.

We have dined at Monte on three separate occasions. The service is very attentive and professional. The atmosphere is intimate and comfortable. The presentation of each dish is artful and creative. The food quality is excellent.

It’s bizarre to read some of the past reviews of Monte which are unfavorable, as they are completely at odds and not representative of the multiple experiences we have had at this excellent restaurant. One of these reviewers only had coffee, another said the restaurant was too loud (which is totally false), one didn’t leave a description (which leaves one wondering what their issue was, and whether it was just a bogus post), one reviewer’s name couldn’t be located in Monte’s records based upon the restaurant’s response, and another came from a reviewer who was clearly ignorant of what constitutes a truly great dining experience.

If you are looking for a memorable and extraordinary dining experience in Utah, don’t hesitate to visit this wonderful restaurant!

We had a truly lovely experience here. We have travelled to several cities (both in the US and internationally) for food, and it was beyond refreshing to have a great culinary experience here in SLC. Overall, it was the best dining experience we’ve had in SLC. Each dish was thoughtful and well executed. In particular, the service we received from Aaron and Ignacio was delightful. They were both personable and attentive and generally lovely.

There were a few points of concern for us that I thought I would share. The first was the pacing of the meal was a bit off. For a 5-course meal, we were there for almost 3 hours. There were stretches between some of the courses that seemed unnecessarily long. The other concern was that there was a 23% service charge added to the bill. In my opinion, that is a hefty mandatory fee to be made of aware of after you had already sat down for your meal. It was one of the only parts of the experience that disenchanted us a bit. But like I said, overall, we had a great experience and we will be coming back for more.

4. delicious ravioli (could’ve eaten another bowl of this)
5. delicious Wagyu w/variety of sauces and purees
6. delicious beeswax ice cream w/miso caramel

This place was such a unique experience! The food was one of a kind, and while it wasn’t all for me, it was incredibly well presented and you can tell there was so much care put into it. Unfortunately a lot of the negative reviews come from people that are against foie gras (which they didn’t even serve). The negative reviews are underserved and I hate to see a family run business get hurt by people with differing opinions on what food people should or shouldn’t eat. Yes it’s expensive, the menu prices are available online, so if you can’t afford to eat there, stay home. All in all, it was a great experience, and I hope they continue to keep doing what they’re doing!

The atmosphere, staff, and food were all excellent and comparable to most Michelin-starred restaurants we’ve been to. The sommelier’s pairing complemented all the courses well, while being strong enough to be enjoyed on their own.

All of the courses were sized well to not feel overly full, but still satiated by the end of the meal and each course has excellent flavors. The timing of courses was perfect for our table of two and allowed us to enjoy at our own pace and discuss the highlights of each before proceeding to the next.

We have been wanting to come here for a while, and they made my wife’s birthday dinner feel special! We will definitely be back to yet what the chef comes up with in the future!
