Reviews
ATMOSPHERE:
Lappert’s is located in the Shops At Wailea, takeout service only.
ICE CREAM:
Chocolate
Very good mild chocolate flavor, but it simply didn’t marry well with the waffle cone. The chocolate overpowers the creaminess of the waffle cone’s batter. Get this in a cup!
Cookie Dough
What’s not to like about vanilla ice cream and cookie dough? This flavor tastes great in the waffle cone. Creamy vanilla + creamy waffle cone batter = get in my belly!
Macadamia Nut
They didn’t have plain vanilla so this was the next best thing. Nice and creamy with just the right amount of chopped mac nuts mixed in.
OVERALL:
Limited selection of everyday flavors, pricey, no water service.
We ordered 3 small cones, ($26 w/tip) one being for an older family member. The cones were very fragile and comprised at hand off. After a couple of bits the cone disintegrated into many pieces.
This happened in front of the staff immediately after paying so we asked for a cup to save the ice cream and make it possible to finish the ice cream.
We were told we needed to buy the cup, the staff seemed to know it was a ridiculous situation to charge for it but that was the company policy.
I couldn’t believe it would ok be to charge a premium price for a modest ice cream experience, then watch a customer struggle with a broken up cone immediately after purchase only to be told buy a cup due to company policy.
When your mission is to sell ice cream it seems your policies would allow for a few more smiles. I felt sorry for staff that works in an environment where they are not allowed to make a great customer experience.
On my first visit, I had the Pineapple Cake and Ube Coconut. The pineapple cake was good but a little heavy for me. The Ube Coconut was creamy, rich, and full of flavor.
The second time, I got Ube Coconut again and tried the Pineapple Coconut, which ended up being the perfect combo.
Don’t skip the waffle cone. It’s freshly made, crispy, and adds the perfect touch.
Wish they had Lappert’s in LA. If you’re in Hawaii, this is a must-visit dessert spot.
