Years ago this could have easily been the best Sonic in Eastern Oklahoma. Now it is climbing it’s way back up there. My husband and I have been consistently making this Sonic our go to stop if we want to grab a bite in town.
From the ice cold Cherry Limeades with the Real cherries, to Super Sonic Double Bacon Burger’s, delicious Pretzel twist, amazingly crunchy fries, and our newest favorite (but not new to the menu just to us), the Country Fried Steak Sandwich, topping it off with a Real Ice Cream Dessert the Henryetta Sonic is THE best.
The friendly carhops, fresh food and fully working stalls are all 5 star worthy!
It was the 4th of July, and the night sky had just turned dark while fireworks started lighting it up like magic. Feeling the mood, I got a craving for a strawberry shake, so I headed to Sonic. It was just after 5:00 PM—prime time for those half-price drinks. Or so I thought.
But standing there, I had a change of heart. I decided to try something new—something I usually avoid because, well, that’s when karma shows up and ruins everything. Still, I figured I’d play it safe by locking in my usual strawberry shake, then ventured into uncharted territory with their “$1 Smasher” and a Route 44 Dragon Blood Red Bull. I saw both items on the app and figured, why not?
Then the bill came—$14 and change. Wait, what? Both items rang up at full price, even though they were advertised as deals. Nothing in the app explained it clearly, and the Sonic worker at the menu screen wasn’t much help either. He just said, “Sorry, the half-price drinks end at 5 PM and we haven’t had a dollar smasher promo in a while.” I had literally just read it on the app. But I wasn’t about to argue. First time trying it, so I chalked it up to experience.
I opened up the Sonic bag, which felt way too big for what I ordered. Turns out, that “smasher” I was excited for was nothing but a lonely smashed patty with a hard crust and just cheese. No toppings. No flavor. For $6.59, I was expecting something better. You won’t catch me smashing back to Sonic anytime soon to repurchase that disappointment.
Later, I told my son about the smasher. He goes, “Those are the bomb, huh?”
“No,” I said. “They are not the bomb. It’s just meat and cheese.”
But he did get excited when I told him I ordered the Dragon Blood Route 44 with Red Bull.
“Yeah, those are good,” he said. And honestly, he was right about that.
As I got out of the car to head inside, I heard a firecracker go off—one of those whistling ones. And I’m jumpy by nature, so I followed the sound with my eyes. In my hand was my drink, and I had already swapped in one of those thick shake straws just in case it turned out to be a good one. I took a sip… and wow. It was so good.
Right then, a firework exploded overhead. Startled, my body flinched—and like most moments when karma strikes, the drink flew right out of my hand and landed in the front yard. A full 44 oz of delicious gone in a flash. And nope, I wasn’t about to drive back and try to explain that to Sonic.
While I don’t blame Sonic, I had the jumpies, standing on the front sidewalk. I At this point did feel that the burger itself was the too much hype for the little bitty. Nothing. Just some hard burnt or crispy trim. The bread was decent but just mayonnaise and cheese. It’s about life, surprises, and $14 mistakes. Lesson learned. And by the way, are there any other twitchers out there who jump at every loud noise like me? Apparently, I’m that guy. And apparently, that burger wasn’t new either—my son says he tried it a while ago. So I guess I missed the memo… again
