Throughout the past few years, whenever we want to celebrate something, whenever we’ve had a bad day, whenever we’re craving a treat, we ask each other, “Wanna go to Bruster’s?” Bruster’s has become synonymous with reward in our household, and here’s why. My husband and I almost always order the same comforting treats: two heaping scoops of the Oreo cookies and cream ice cream in a waffle cone for him, and a fully loaded hot fudge mint chocolate chip sundae, topped with whipped cream and rainbow sprinkles, for me. My husband describes the Oreo ice cream as “exactly how you envision it tasting, creamy, with strong vanilla notes, and both bits and pieces of Oreos as well as almost full-sized cookies.”
The rich creaminess of the mint chocolate chip ice cream, coupled with the refreshing mint flavor and scent, take me back to simpler days of eating mint chocolate chip ice cream cones. The chocolate chips provide a burst of chocolate as well as a pleasing crunchy texture. Nowadays, I prefer a sundae, because some days I’m just looking for a party when I have dessert.
Each time we visit Bruster’s, we go through the drive thru, which is fast, convenient, and efficient, as we are always greeted and served promptly. Be sure to sign up for the Bruster’s Rewards program, which is an app on your phone that they scan for you each visit. When you have hit your rewards goal, you will receive a $5 off coupon for your next visit. Also, they have offered coupons for $1 off your order, in paper form, that we kept in our glove box. Spacious seating around patio tables and ample parking provide a few options for enjoying your frozen treats right away, but there’s no indoor dining. The servings are very generous, and we enjoy getting out of the house, so we haven’t had the occasion to buy their packaged ice cream yet, but we’ve talked about it. We can’t find anything in the grocery store we enjoy as much as Bruster’s fresh-made-daily ice cream.

I had a disappointing experience during the Sunday night shift. The young woman at the window handed us our ice cream with an irritated expression, and before I could even say “thank you,” she slammed the window shut in my face and my child’s face. The sound was loud and unnecessary, and it left us feeling uncomfortable , especially since we didn’t say anything to her. Unfortunately, this experience makes me not want to return.
