I started with a Thai Iced Tea, perfect balance of sweet and flavor. Our table had soup, spring rolls, pad see yu, and green curry vegetables with tofu.
Two opted for the coconut curry soup with chicken and one lemon grass with shrimp. I had the coconut soup, very flavorful. It did have some fibrous round straw like items that were hard to chew but not off putting enough to stop me from finishing the bowl.
We did family style by ordering two entrees and sharing, there was plenty of food to go around and we had left overs. The two entrees we picked was the Claypot Green Curry Vegetable with tofu, it arrived to the table still boiling: the other dish was Pad See Yu, chicken and rice noodles. The Pad See Yu was my favorite.
We sat and visited for a while enjoying the comfort of the restaurant. Plenty of tables to host a group, but I would probably call ahead for a group over 8-10, there is limited seating. The staff were friendly and helpful in us getting the perfect meal.
If Thai is one of your top cuisines put this location on your “let’s visit” list.
They do not have menus, they use the QR code found on the table.
The noodle dish looked good in the picture, but once it arrived, I regretted ordering it. Both the salad and the noodles came in large portions, which was nice, but the taste didn’t remind me of real Thai food at all. It felt like just a slight imitation of authentic Thai flavors.
The prices were $20 for the noodles and $15 for the salad.
Also, during our entire meal, no server came to check on us even once even though the restaurant wasn’t busy. That part was especially disappointing.
A few notes on some of the dishes:
The “crying tiger” appetizer was one of the best meat dishes I’ve ever had in a Thai restaurant. I really enjoyed about 1/3 of this dish before the 12-year old took it away from me. Big, beefy flavor with an amazing flavor profile. Simply exquisite!
Grilled chicken satay had a great flavor but the texture of the chicken was a little off. I can’t really put my finger on what they did but somehow the meat was not tender and juicy like it should have been. That said, great flavor and a beautiful peanut dipping sauce.
Curry pot stickers were basic pot stickers but the sauce was so amazing that we kept it when they cleared the appetizer dishes.
The wife ordered a pad see eew that was exactly what she had been missing. She has ordered this same dish at a few different Thai restaurants in St. Louis that just didn’t get the flavor right but Thai Sawadee satisfied that craving!
The kids both ordered noodle & rice dishes that I tried but wouldn’t have ordered myself because there were so many more interesting options on the menu. Both were good and everything was fresh.
One note: I can’t hold it against the restaurant but what the hell were the parents at the next table thinking!?! They brought a 5 or 6 year old with them toting an iPad that apparently came without headphones or a mute button. Just plain rude!!!
They don’t hand out the menus – each table is provided with QR code to scan, check the menu, place order and even pay. Very convenient.
Appetizers – Spring rolls (4pcs) & Fried Tofu were ok. Curry pot stickers (5pcs) were good! The peanut sauce that came along was yum.
But appetizers are overpriced $$ to the quantity you get.
Drinks – Thai Iced is good!!
For the entrées- we tried multiple dishes.
Their noodles soups are very good! We tried Chicken Thai, Tom Yum Seafood & Khao Soi Kai – all three were amazing. Khao Soi Kai was my favorite. Quantity is big! (Check out the pics)
In other dishes – tried Thai red curry and pineapple fried rice – both were really tasty.
Overall – great option for Thai food. They don’t have huge sitting space so if you are going with a big party, let them know so that they can help you out.
Appetizers are overpriced to the quantity you get, but the entrees proportions are good & tasty. Great ambience. Definite
Atmosphere is decent.
