Everything was Delicious! We had fried chicken, bbq pork ribs, Mac n cheese, green beans. the banana pudding was good but the peach cobbler was out of this world. The best I’ve ever had. We are definitely coming back.

Google Review for Nana Morrison’s Soul Food – Cary, NC

After the closing of K&W Cafeteria, I was glad to see another soul food restaurant open up in the area. We’ve been to Nana Morrison’s about five times now, and overall, it’s been a great experience.

The service is consistently very good — the staff is friendly and welcoming. The first time I visited, I dined in, and it was a pleasant outing with a nice atmosphere. On our second visit, I ordered the shrimp, and two of the pieces were stuck together. When I pulled them apart, the middle was soggy and undercooked. With seafood, especially shrimp, it’s important to make sure each piece is properly separated before frying to avoid this issue. The rest of the food was absolutely amazing.

One day I tried to place an order from my phone, and the online system wouldn’t allow me to proceed with ordering a large plate. It required selecting two meats — I had clicked the fish twice, as instructed, but it still didn’t go through.

I also appreciate how clean the restaurant is. The condiments are laid out in a neat, organized array, which shows attention to detail.

I highly recommend supporting this local business. It’s a solid addition to the Cary food scene, and I’m looking forward to many more visits.

The food was delicious. Macaroni and cheese was ok though. Yams and collards were delicious and so were the ribs. Food was a little pricey. Almost $17 for a small plate and almost $29 for a big plate. Only difference between small and big plate is for the big plate you get 2 meats instead of 1. Food is very filling; Staff was really nice! Place was small but you can sit down and eat. I would definitely come back when I’m in the area.

Best soul food around!
Huge portions!
The cat fish filet was the biggest and the best tasting that I’ve ever had in all my 40 years.
All that’s missing to be just like grandma’s cooking on Sunday afternoon’s is a 10 or 12 layer yellow cake with chocolate icing.
They have plenty of deserts to choose from.
Something for everyone!

A nice tuck away restaurant. The food was seasoned really well, but you will get a light meal to take the hunger edge off. If you are familiar with Jack’s Seafood in Raleigh, you get more bang for your buck there. Do I recommend NM, absolutely, you will just need dinner. Very clean.

I am usually disappointed when I go to soul food restaurants but this one is really good! And in Cary??? The place was really clean ans spacious but I got my order to go.

I had the fried chicken (2 pieces), potato salad and green beans while my husband had a smothered pork chop, greens and mac and cheese. It was about $16.50 for 1 meat, two sides and choice of cornbread or roll. The only negative was they forgot to give me my cornbread, so I ended up sharing my husband’s. I’ll be back to try the meatloaf, cabbage and desserts!

The total of the food pictured below was almost 50$. The the fried chicken was delicious and so was the mash potatoes! The Mac n cheese was just okay and the collards taste like they’re from the can.

The jerk chicken is VERY sweet and taste more like barbecue chicken, it was not spicy at all. The restaurant was very clean and the staff were friendly. I didn’t try the cakes but they looked so moist! They only had Pepsi products but i ended up getting a ginger ale.

There many sides and the meats they offered all looked delicious and well prepared. They closed at 8pm and i got there at 7:20 and they were still putting out fresh food. I would definitely come back and try more of their options and highly recommend!

WOW. As someone who doesn’t often eat comfort food, everything about this place exceeded my expectations. It’s your traditional southern home cooked meal but it’s not one bit greasy, it’s not super seasoned but also not bland. The Mac and cheese is creamy which I always prefer, and the yams were TOP tier. My husband got fried chicken and I got baked and both were amazing. Even the desserts were amazing, we both had cake. The service is great, the place is immaculately clean and in a perfect location. It’s homey, it’s cultured, it’s tasteful with a touch of esthetic. It was the perfect weekend meal.

I got the large 2 item plate. Catfish & fried chicken with Mac n Cheese and Collards. It was delicious! The chicken was moist and crispy, the fish was fried hard and fresh! The Mac n Cheese was creamy and the collards had a great flavor. I finished my meal with the banana pudding that tastes just like homemade! Definitely a place to check out when you want good soul food! The music selection was such a vibe!

From the moment we stepped inside, it was clear Nana Morrison’s Soul Food is a hidden gem! The restaurant was spotless, with ample seating perfect for families. But let’s talk about the food – an absolute symphony of flavors!

During a detour through Cary, NC, on our way back to New York, we stumbled upon this soul food haven, and boy, are we glad we did! The jerk chicken was tender and bursting with flavor, the ribs slathered in a finger-licking barbecue sauce that made them melt in your mouth. And the sides? The mac & cheese was creamy and comforting, but the sweet potatoes – oh my! – were a taste of heaven. The collard greens were soul-satisfying, and the mashed potatoes and gravy were simply divine. Don’t even get me started on the potato salad, a must-try for any true fan. And to top it all off, the pumpkin pie and double chocolate cake were the perfect sweet ending.

Nana Morrison has truly created something special here. If you’re ever in Cary, do yourself a favor and stop by. Tell them Kerri from New York sent you – you won’t regret it!
We will definitely be stopping in on our next North Carolina Trip!
