If you’re looking for a true piece of Peoria history, Agatucci’s Restaurant absolutely delivers. This multi-generational, family-owned restaurant at 2607 N University St, affectionately known by locals as “Agi’s” has been serving pizza and Italian specialties since 1926. What started as a small mom-and-pop grocery store made the switch to a restaurant during the Great Depression to better serve the community, and nearly 100 years later it’s still a place where generations of families eat together.
The night I visited, the Peoria Italian American Club was hosting a benefit, and I met several people who had been dining there for 60+ years, always a good sign to me. I’ve heard parking can sometimes look tight, but don’t let that fool you; it may look very busy and you may have to hunt for a parking spot but there’s usually more room inside than you’d expect.
The menu offers PIZZA and classic Italian favorites like spaghetti, ravioli, and family-recipe Italian sausage, plus comfort-food options like fried chicken, burgers, and more. They’re also known for their vinegar-and-oil dressing, which you can even buy by the bottle.
Agi’s also has a full liquor bar and some local history behind it, legend has it that after Prohibition ended in 1933, they reportedly secured liquor license #13, making it the oldest continually held liquor license in Peoria.
For my meal, I started with the fried ravioli appetizer, paired it with a Hamm’s beer, and ordered the sausage and mushroom extra-cheese pizza. Served in classic Midwest tavern-cut style, the pizza arrived quickly despite a very busy dining room full of friendly locals. The best word I can use is simply: excellent. This pizza easily ranks in my personal Top 5, and it’s now a guaranteed stop anytime every time I’m back in Peoria.
The restaurant itself has expanded and enlarged over the years, with a main bar area, a dining room, plus a large banquet-style room in the back. The decor isn’t fancy, it’s classic, giving off a very retro vibe. This is an old-school place where the focus is on quality food, and genuine service.

My husband grew up eating Agi’s. It was the first place he brought me when we visited his hometown after we started dating. We were lucky enough to get transferred to Peoria with his company back in 2000 and we’re now regulars at Agi’s. We’ve celebrated so many special events here. We love to look around and see the generations of families sitting together every time we visit.
Don’t get me started on the service. It’s the best we’ve ever had. They make us feel like family. Our first visit after losing my dad, Danny gave us our meal on the house. Their staff is loyal with hardly any turnover. That says a lot about a business.
The atmosphere is classic hometown pizza place. Wood paneling, colored Christmas lights around the ceiling, dim lighting. I hope it never changes.

We went for the first time tonight and we loved it ! We loved to food it was amazing. We had been talking about how we missed how restaurants looked and felt going to when we were kids and how we just want non commercialized restaurants, food at an affordable price, and for places to stop with the industrial modern look; we want personality it matters. The wait staff was amazing with great timing and not overwhelming or making you feel rushed at all. Eating here made me feel cozy almost like eating at home with the dim lights and comfortable temperature, and the seating arrangements weren’t too crowded but not awkwardly spaced too far apart. This place is automatically unique and now one of my top favorite places and I’ll make the 30 minute drive again.

Fantastic Saturday Night at Agatucci’s!
Our family had such a great Saturday night at Agatucci’s!! From the moment we walked in, we felt completely at home — it’s got that cozy, family-style atmosphere that makes you want to stay awhile.
The pizza was incredible — crispy crust, awesome sauce, and super fresh toppings. You can tell everything’s made with care and tradition. The rest of the food was just as good — everything came out hot, fresh, and full of flavor.
A huge shoutout to our waitress, Amanda, who absolutely made our night. She was friendly, upbeat, and so attentive. She double-checked our orders, made sure everything was perfect, and went out of her way to make the kids feel special and welcome. You don’t see service like that very often anymore!
If you’re looking for great food, a fun family atmosphere, and amazing service, Agatucci’s is the place to go. We’ll definitely be back — and we’ll be asking for Amanda!

This family owned restaurant is an excellent choice for supper. Eating alone or with a large group, you’ll be treated like family, and the friendly service is impeccable. They serve a cold, crispy, lettuce salad with their house dressing that is so delicious. Agatucci’s thin crust pizza with your choice of toppings is a pizza you’ll never forget. The sausage pizza is always my favorite. Their menu has other excellent Italian food choices and fried chicken. You’ll leave with a big smile on your face and a full belly.

The pizza is highly overrated 3/10.. the towel that they used to clean the pizza pan left a smell on my pizza. Fried chicken 8/10, it was regular fried chicken but it was hot, crispy and tasty. Our waitress wouldn’t stop talking over our food and drinks, making it very uncomfortable because we was hungry just trying to chill. Very old fashioned restaurant which is ok but should be up to date a bit.. overall 5.5/10, won’t be back but I’m sure we won’t be missed

I’ve been away from central Illinois for a while. The pan pizza from the old Leonardo’s at Gondola is great, and just how I remembered… But the incredible pizza at Agatucci’s is that cracker thin square cut bar pizza I cherished as a kid growing up here. Thin, crispy, packed with flavor and a bar/dining room packed with nostalgia that represents the very best in a locally family owned pizza pub. It’s perfect. Really perfect.

The tavern is dingy and visibly neglected, with water stains covering the ceiling. An absurd number of tables were reserved for birthday celebrations, which made no sense given how depressing the space feels. The pizza has a cracker thin crust with zero chew or flavor. Appetizers are limited to the same generic fried ravioli and mozzarella sticks you can get anywhere. The food does not come close to justifying the hype, and the service is outright bad. This was probably a decent spot in the 80s, and the owners chose to never update, improve, or care since then. The place clearly survives on nostalgia, because if anything changed, people might realize how bad the food actually is.

I love the pasta here, the service is good the person who accommodate us is kind but there was a young waitress in front of us wasn’t happy she was complaining and using some words we felt uncomfortable, she should’ve made her complaints in private Anyway It was a good experience for the food the atmosphere is good it makes me feel like I’m in the countryside.
