My partner and I had an absolutely amazing time at KOTO! It provided the perfect backdrop for a wonderful evening out. From start to finish, the entire fine dining experience was exceptional. The staff were so lovely and welcoming, and the service was genuinely impeccable. They took such great care of us, allowing us to just focus on enjoying a beautiful night together. A truly five-star experience that I highly recommend to any couple looking for a special night out!

Truly deserving of five stars. KOTO offers a wonderful fine dining experience in Canberra. The tasting menu was perfectly curated, and the wine pairings chosen by the sommelier were a highlight; they talked us through each selection, explaining exactly why the flavors complemented the dish. It was both educational and delicious!
For drinks, the apple mocktail with wasabi and white chocolate was a unique standout. The tempura was light and delicate, providing a great contrast to the indulgent wagyu tacos and steak. The sashimi box was also beautifully presented and incredibly fresh. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough—it’s the perfect spot for a special occasion with loved ones.

What a wonderful experience. It was pricey but worth it. One of those restaurants you go when you want to impress someone or when you want to splurge or celebrate a special occasion. The food was absolutely wonderful. The service was unbelievable. The host made our night more enjoyable as he was very down to earth and funny. All the staff was very professional and described the dishes perfectly. Looking forward to going back. We had the set menus and it was such a hassle free experience as we didn’t have to spend ages deciding what to have.

Koto was simply amazing! We drove up from Sydney for a few days and visited the restaurant. The staff were polite and accomodating of our dietary requirements. The food was delicious, especially the barramundi and the tacos! Definitely recommend for anyone wanting to try authentic Japanese food in Canberra! Tabemono wa oishikatta desu!

The food was delicious. I visited on my birthday and had a reservation for 8:00 pm. I arrived a bit early at 7:30 pm and informed the staff that I was early, and that it was completely fine for us to go elsewhere and come back at 8:00 pm if there were no available tables. However, the staff told us that everything was ready and invited us to come in.

We ended up waiting around 20 minutes before anyone came to take our order. While the food itself was quite good, the ordering service was extremely slow and we had to wait a very long time. When paying the bill, I spoke with the manager, but there was no acknowledgment or solution—only excuses.

Perfect date night!
KOTO is a visual and culinary delight from the moment you arrive. The entrance, framed by a serene Japanese-style garden, sets a tranquil yet grand tone. The regal double doors open to reveal a beautifully designed modern interior — a harmonious blend of dark, moody tones contrasted with warm light woods and sleek marble, making it a truly unique and elegant place to enjoy an evening.
My partner and I dined here for dinner and loved every moment of our experience. The ambience was elegant and inviting, perfectly complemented by the outstanding service. Melissa looked after us with genuine warmth and professionalism, guiding us through the menu with expert recommendations that were nothing short of divine. Every dish was wonderfully presented and full of flavour, and our desserts provided the perfect finishing touch to an unforgettable meal.
KOTO is a must-visit for your next night out.

✨ A truly unforgettable experience at Koto ✨

We celebrated our anniversary at Koto Japanese Restaurant and could not have chosen a more perfect place. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed, and Otto-san made us feel so incredibly special throughout the night. His genuine hospitality and attention to detail went above and beyond — we truly felt looked after in every way.

The food was absolutely outstanding: beautifully presented, authentic, and full of flavour. Each dish felt carefully crafted, and the balance of textures and tastes made for a dining experience that was both elegant and memorable. Pair that with the cosy, intimate atmosphere and you have the perfect setting for a special occasion.

Koto is more than just a restaurant — it’s a place where you feel like a valued guest. We will definitely be back, and that is all thanks to the wonderful care of the Manager, Otto-san. He made our anniversary one we will never forget.

Thank you, Otto-san and team, for making our evening so memorable. We couldn’t recommend Koto highly enough to anyone looking for exceptional Japanese cuisine in Canberra.

What a fabulous restaurant. The food is second to none. Every dish we had was mind blowingly delicious. The atmosphere is beautiful. We had the private dining room and it was just perfect.

Ota was serving us and he was so friendly, super knowledgeable about both the food and drinks menu. He made fantastic suggestions for pairing dishes with sake.

Will definitely come back to Koto for another amazing experience in the future.

Our family had a wonderful and satisfying meal at this restaurant with delicious food and very attentive, knowledgeable staff. We ordered the signature bento box lunch special which was easily substituted to both pescatarian and vegetarian options, all of which were equally delicious and impressively displayed. The miso eggplant was so light and crispy and the chicken and beef were extremely tender. The staff provided excellent service, making this a delightful birthday celebration!
