We have been coming to GWR since they opened and have always had a great experience. Last night we came to see Coconut Groove Band and were extremely disappointed by the service. The management was awful to both her staff and customers. She struggled to keep calm under the pressure of a busy night and each time customers ordered, she was either rude to them, the staff or both. In a customer service industry, a smile or thank you go a long way and neither was seen last night by her. At one point she even tossed the hand held payment system in frustration. We did have positive interactions with Michelle, a bartender, but can’t imagine she will stay much longer working in such conditions.

I absolutely love Great Wagon Road Distillery in Waxhaw. The staff treats you like family, making you feel valued rather than just another customer. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. I went with a friend to check out the GWR Distilling on a Saturday afternoon. I have lived in Waxhaw for a long time, and I am excited that there is a distillery. We sat at the bar, and the bartenders were very friendly and let us taste some of their bourbon. We each ordered an old fashion with the Rua. It was excellent. I was very impressed with the GWR Distilling in Waxhaw, and I look forward to coming back.

Ok. Let me preface this by saying I am from Kentucky. I have only drank really good bourbon for over 40 years. The bar is great. The music was great. The young bartender with glasses (female) makes terrible mixed drinks. Absolutely, undrinkable. I ordered an Old Fashion. In a 60 + lifetime, I have had probably hundreds. Maybe thousands. She poured whiskey, wasn’t paying attention to bitters. No orange peel. Nothing else. So gross for 16 dollars. You are a new bar. You could be a great bar easily. Send her to bartender school or make her wash dishes. No kidding. The best old fashion, you say? A restaurant in Corydon, Indiana. The bartender said he was the best at making them. We ordered one each. 3 each later, he is the Old Fashion god. He was a bartender in the top bar in New York city. Figure out whether you are a flash in the pan or really want to succeed. Send her to bartender school. She is nice but great drinks mean repeat customers.

7:25pm June 24, 2024: the sole house-plant-attitude (bartender) clearly hates her job. She was unhelpful and appears distracted and would rather being doing anything other than serving customers. Nice place but staff makes or breaks a business.
