Being New Yorkers raised on traditional Bronx Italian food, I was prepared for a decent meal, but we were not expecting to much. Boy, were we wrong.
A bit crowded, we took a seat at the bar and had a great conversation with Renato ScottiBelli, the owner of the restaurant. He truly went above and beyond trying to get everyone seated and was a fantastic host.
The wait staff (a special thank you to our server Britney) were exceeding friendly and attended to our every whim.
Sitting in a cozy booth, we started our meal with fresh bread and an appetizer of fried Calamari. Great presentation, lightly battered and very good.
Dinner for the wife was Pollo Gorgonzola, a creamy dish of braised chicken over risotto with mushrooms and a gorgonzola cream sauce. I had the Spaghetti Carbonara, which was absolutely delicious! Both meals were superb and defiantly exceeded our expectations.
The only negative I found, which is of no fault of the owner, is they do not serve liquor (blame the state of Montana for this one) only beer and wine.
I wanted to have an after dinner espresso with Anisette, but unfortunately they are not allowed to serve any sort of liquor.
Please patronize ScottiBelli’s, I promise you that you will not go away hungry or be disappointed!
I would highly recommend it, we live in Denver and I was thoroughly impressed from the starter to the dessert ☺️ Jordan went out of his way and made this a wonderful experience.
Let’s start with the food (naturally). We started our meal with the Vognole Marinate as an app (see pictures). It was a TRULY unique approach to the traditional “clams in a white wine sauce” and absolutely did not disappoint! The dish was truly delicious, and the bread that is incorporated into the dish was perfect for sopping up the delectable sauce that accompanies the clams. (If you happen to get Jordan as your waiter, he’ll likely tell you the origin of this truly unique dish).
For our mains, we ordered the Gnocci Gorgonzola and Linguine Pescatore, both of which were absolutely spectacular! While my wife was reluctant to share much of her gnocchi with me, what she did share was the best iteration of gnocchi I’ve had in my many decades of eating Italian food. My dish, the Pescatore, was outstanding as well – it was seasoned to perfection with the EXACT level of spice that leant itself to the overall experience of the dish, without overpowering the intended flavors.
Now, onto the staff – thank goodness we couldn’t get a table at the sushi place across the street, because we would have missed out on a truly phenomenal dining experience. We were greeted at the door by Jordan, who informed us that they had 4 of their kitchen staff quit the day before and, as a result, were experiencing some delays. He sat us at the bar, took our drink orders, went back to playing host for everyone who came through the doors, and tended to us as quickly as he could throughout our wait. When we were eventually seated, I got to see the full scope of his work. Jordan was essentially working as a host, bartender, waiter and food runner simultaneously. In the 2.5 hours we were in the restaurant, I only saw him sit down once, and that was only to help a fellow employee wrap silverware. He was incredibly personable, especially given that he was in the weeds, and deserved EVERY penny of the 75% tip I gave him.
In summation, this was one of the most resplendent dining experiences I’ve ever had. In my hometown of Denver, we have MANY Italian options, and I’ve been to a good amount of them, but NOTHING holds a candle to the incomparable food and service my wife and I experienced at ScottiBelli’s!
Highly recommend giving this red leather, classic Italian music playing, hip joint a try or a second chance.
