The service is ok and maybe a tad chaotic. I think the young men are nice and try to do well but there is no congeniality and I think part of the problem might be lack of staff. Maybe a staff member called in sick or it’s lack of training which means that’s a managerial issue. We still have no idea why things were served in the order that they were served and why plates weren’t offered at the right time.
But I will say the staff seemed to overwhelmed.
THE DRINKS- I would stick to beer and wine or simple drinks on the rocks. What was impressive MACALLAN was on the drink list.
Food- the shumai was probably the best item. The white rice was moist and NOT OVERCOOKED most Americans just think it’s a filler and they do not pay much attention to it but my Chinese grandsons if were there would have gobbled omit down. The dish with rice where you pick 2 meats: duck, chicken or pork. I would not pick the duck. The green bean dish was good but the beans were chopped into too small of pieces. The cooked cabbage with one dish was simply bland but cooked appropriately (al dente). My Cantonese guest thought we should atleast come back but try other dishes. But my POV was food in NYC is not cheap but their prices here were solid. I eat out over 300 meals a year and I love discovering little jewels. Sadly this was not a little jewel but maybe my Cantonese guest saw something that I didn’t. Therefore, I will give it another chance and hope to find out that it is a little jewel. I will share a Happy Chinese New Year and RAMADAN MUBARAK since both holidays are back to back this year. Xie Xie
The food was just okay. The soup dumplings were mediocre, and the chicken chow fun was fine but a bit bland. Ironically, the best thing I had was the jasmine tea.
The most disappointing part, however, was the service — or rather, the lack of it. The restaurant was nearly empty, yet it took a long time to get a waiter’s attention just to place my order. Dirty dishes were left piling up and were only cleared after I finished eating and paid. There was no one around to even ask for a napkin.
I dislike leaving a small tip, but the staff’s attitude felt as though they were doing customers a favor by being there. Given the service, it was hard to justify tipping at all.
The pan fried dumplings here are good. Well filled and not too doughy. I would come here and just order a few serving of the pan fried dumplings. They are superior to the soup dumplings, which you can skip. I like that they serve both steamed and crispy roast pork buns but they weren’t hot.
The beef chow fun is tasty. I would recommend it. And the Chinese broccoli is delicious.
This restaurant can randomly get very busy. Make a reservation if you can.
Great aesthetic and an extensive menu featuring authentic Cantonese cuisine.
So is the vibe. The restaurant was very quiet and chill, with music playing at a very nice volume level. You just feel comfortable staying for longer, and even if you’re eating alone, there’s no pressure of finishing your food at all.
The food is very decent – got the beef stir fry noodles 干炒牛河, scallop shaomai, ginseng and silkie chicken soup花旗参竹丝鸡汤。I would recommend the chicken soup – it might be a bit salty for some, but just right for me. A lot of meat in the soup cooked tender, with ginseng and 枸杞goji berries. The restroom is also very clean.
Would recommend 100/100
