The Old Mill offers a truly authentic taste of traditional Irish cuisine in the heart of Dublin. The Guinness stew was rich, hearty, and beautifully slow-cooked, with tender meat and deep, comforting flavors. The lamb was equally impressive — perfectly cooked, flavorful, and clearly prepared with care and respect for tradition.
The atmosphere reflects classic Irish hospitality, warm and inviting without feeling overly touristy. What truly stood out, however, was the kindness and professionalism of the staff — attentive, welcoming, and genuinely friendly throughout the entire experience.
If you’re looking for traditional Irish dishes done right, served with authentic hospitality, The Old Mill is an excellent choice

My first meal in Dublin. I made a reservation for 5 pm but it wasn’t necessary. The restaurant was completely full though at 6 pm when I left. I ordered the Guiness beef stew, which was very tasty. The beef had flavor and the vegetables weren’t overcooked. It came with mashed potatoes (or fries) and brown bread and butter. I also got apple crumble which was more like an apple pie and it came with lovely cream and a yellow custard sauce. It was delicious, not as sweet as the ones at home. The staff were all very nice. I thought the prices were reasonable, especially compared to the US. The stew came with a lot of beef.

What a great place! And with a line out the door so good thing we had reservations! I selected this restaurant based on location, vibe, and menu – and it did not disappoint. The inside was the exact vibe I was hoping for our first day in Dublin – warm, traditional feeling. The hostess (Asian lady) was so so warm and friendly. The menu has tons of choices which is something I always look for as I have 4 teenagers. I found a lot of other restaurants in the area were SO focused on meat. The Old Mill had meat, fish, chowder, pasta – even breakfast at 1pm in the afternoon.

The two standout dishes were the chicken liver pate starter and lamb shank. Delicious. The meat was literally falling off the bone. The seafood chowder starter was also very good and FULL of seafood. The rest of the dishes were very good according to my family – steak and eggs, fish and chips, and cottage pie.

The one thing I will mention is that the music was a bit loud. Mostly 80s American music (which I love). That being said, our table was directly under one of the speakers so maybe it wasn’t as loud for the other patrons.

Bottom line, if you are visiting Dublin and want a great restaurant with a seemingly authentic Irish menu a block from the river I highly suggest the Old Mill.

It was amazing!!!
Food is absolutely brilliant!!! Service is outstanding. Guys you are very welcoming team, ready to help and give advice.
Chef and kitchen staff I would like to thank you, your food made my first impression about Ireland.
I’ll definitely recommend to book a table in advance, because queue was massive at 6pm on Thursday.

After the Jameson tour, my husband, his colleagues, and I—visiting Dublin for a work conference—went to the Old Mill Restaurant. The food and atmosphere were wonderful, and the staff were funny, kind, and welcoming. Definitely a spot we’ll return to next time we’re in Dublin!

The flavours were absolutely amazing, and the portions were very generous. We ordered the traditional Irish stew, which came with bread and creamy mashed potatoes; comfort food done right. We also had the lamb shank, which was incredibly succulent and smothered in a rich, delicious gravy, served with mash.
As a local, I’ve always thought of this spot as quite “touristy” because of its Temple Bar location, but it was genuinely worth it. Great food that exceeded expectations and definitely changed my mind.

Visited this place last May and we were impressed to say the least. Had to wait due to rush hour but it was worth the wait. It’s a busy street with a lot of tourists and they know many people who come here are not going to come back, still they make every effort to make your experience better. We ordered pie and beef stew and both were tasty with decent portions.

Walked right in off the street and got seated immediately (party of 5). Food was delicious. Lamb stew and cottage pie. Guiness was perfect. Small space, not a lot of seating. Staff was nice enough but not very warm. For a tourist spot it was pretty good. Seemed to be some locals floating around in there.

Our first dinner in Dublin, the reviews and photos looked amazing was the reason of choosing this place. There was queue when arriving however it was worth the wait as it was small space upstairs. They had all the traditional Irish cuisine including a FULL Flour Free Menu!

We had the Famous Irish Lamb Shank and Traditional Irish Stew. They are absolutely delicious and taste buds was more than happy. It felt like pure enjoy eating them.

The lamb shank was melting like butter and mind you Irish butter is freaking amazing. The flavor was outstanding. The traditional Irish stew was our favorite dish of all time. We would totally come to this spot.

We for sure came back again one last time the night before we had to fly back home. As we didn’t know when we will be back. I tried the cottage pie and let me tell you… exquisite and my partner had to get the Irish stew again.

Overall, you have to go here 🙂

Fantastic first meal in Dublin. The place is oozing with character and history. I had a burger and it was excellent!! The server was great. The manager noticed I had on a Harley hat on and gave me directions to the nearby Harley shop. Pretty cool!! Fairly reasonable prices. You are packed in there like sardines but that to me just adds to the experience!! Well done!!
