We walked to Coyote Family Steakhouse from Super 8 Motel in the uptown area of Yellowknife for lunch. The restaurant seemed little busy during the lunch hour, which gave the place a lively and welcoming atmosphere.

The service was friendly and efficient despite some crowd. Our server recommended one of their signature dishes, the Lake Slave pickerel. The fish tasted similar to pan-fried white fish, but the texture was not as smooth as I would have preferred. For a fish dish that cost about C$40, I felt it was quite pricey and not really worth the value, so I would not strongly recommend it.

We also ordered the northern fish and additional mushroom soup, which cost C$26 in addition of $6. This dish was much better value for the price. To be fair, I supposed that the restaurant maybe more specialized in their steak dishes which we did not try.

Overall, it was a decent lunch experience and a convenient dining option if you are staying in the uptown area of Yellowknife.

This is my favourite restaurant in Yellowknife. Food and service are exceptional. I had a 12 oz Prime Rib with perfect potatoes, vegetables and Yorkshire pudding – $40. Music is good bit not too loud. Owner and staff are very friendly. You cannot go wring here. I only come out of the far North a few times a year and I visit here when I can.

My first visit to Yellowknife is a wonderful journey. One of the reasons is we met so many nice people in this city. This Steakhouse has a very special name, we found it on the Google map. Very good service and good food. It seems that all customers were enjoying their food…..
The Captain, I think he is the owner greeted every customer and took the order, very friendly and sincere .
We got 2 free salad and also 2 big desserts for the celebration of my sister.
This is the restaurant you should visit if you are in Yellowknife.

So I came here with a small group of business associates based upon a local’s recommendation. So glad that I ate here. So glad that I went back for a second time, my last night in Yellowknife.

Gotta make sure that your last supper is AMAZING! Boy was it amazing!

Staff is extremely friendly. Owner, who is also the primary server, makes you feel welcomed and appreciated. Food is well prepared and on point! All prices very reasonable for North and South of 60.

While they appear to have a typical steakhouse menu, things are locally sourced where possible and have a local twist. Rib eye is bison, bread is bannock, seafood chowder is arctic char. They even paired up with the local brewery to create their own pilsner.

This restaurant is heavily involved in supporting community and local youth groups. Specific menu items are tied to local fundraising efforts making everything a win-win. Good food and you are supporting a local cause.

With their menu combined with supporting local programs, they bring “buy local” and “buy Canadian ” to a whole new level. Love it!

The next time that I am in Yellowknife, Coyotes will be on my list of places to eat.

Perhaps I should shut up and keep this jewel of Yellowknife to myself.

This place is THE place to go in Yellowknife. I came to Yellowknife on a work contract and was going to be spending two months there minimum. This is the first place I went to eat when I got to town. It’s also the place we went to eat 95% of the time. Everything on the menu is 5 stars, considering the menu has like 40 items to choose from, this is an impressive feat of kitchen magic. The owner, Ed, was the most lovable, kindest, “make you feel at home” kind of guy. He honestly made working in -35c worth it for those two months. He recognized after only a few visits and always greeted us with a warm welcome when we walked through the door. He runs a tight ship and it shows in the food! Not to mention the coyote Pilsner! A classic, creamy beer that you cannot go without trying! We will be back, and this will be the place we go to eat everytime! PS. You have to try the 40oz tomahawk challenge! We didn’t even come close to finishing in time but it was well worth the effort, an incredible cut of meat!

This is a place in Yellowtown where you can enjoy delicious, high-quality food. The plate, featuring buffalo steak and salmon steak, is generous and serves up a variety of local specialties. It’s not too salty and delicious. It seems like a popular spot for tourists seeking to see the aurora.
