Four Seasons quality. The service was outstanding. We started at the bar while waiting for our table (we arrived 30 minutes early to enjoy a cocktail, totally recommended). The barman was great, and you “feel the service” right away. He explained the menu (at the bar) and prepared a few cocktails, including my favorite negroni. Then, at the table, the waitress was really nice and made good conversation. We had gnocchi (which wasn’t the best, in my opinion), a really good sushi (avocado salmon), a macadamia nut-crusted fish (excellent), and a chocolate soufflé (good). The views are amazing and very romantic for enjoying the sunset.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An Unforgettable Masterpiece in Wailea

If you are looking for the absolute pinnacle of dining on Maui, Spago at the Four Seasons is it. From the moment we stepped into the open-air dining room, we knew we were in for something special. The combination of Wolfgang Puck’s legendary California-Asian fusion and the fresh, vibrant spirit of Hawaii is nothing short of magic.

The Service: Pure “Aloha” Professionalism
I cannot say enough about the staff. The service here isn’t just “good”—it is world-class. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable, guiding us through the wine list and the daily specials with genuine passion.

What stood out most was the attentiveness without being intrusive. They seemed to anticipate every need, from refreshing our drinks at the perfect moment to the tableside deboning of the fresh fish, which was handled with the precision of an art form. It’s clear that the team here operates at a level of excellence that matches the Four Seasons’ five-star reputation.

The Food: A Culinary Journey
Every dish that hit the table was a “wow” moment. We started with the iconic Spicy Ahi Poke Cones—the crunch of the sesame-miso cone against the buttery, spicy tuna is a texture and flavor explosion you simply have to experience.

For the main course, the Grilled Mahimahi with pineapple-ginger barbecue sauce was the highlight of the night. It tasted like Hawaii on a plate—fresh, sweet, and perfectly balanced. We also tried the Hand Cut Tagliatelle with Wagyu Ragout, which was incredibly rich and comforting. Even the bread service, featuring their signature onion focaccia, was addictive.

Pro-Tips for Your Visit:
• The View: Try to snag a reservation right before sunset. The view of the Pacific from the lanai is breathtaking and provides the perfect backdrop for your meal.

• Signature Sips: Don’t skip the cocktails! The Haleakala Fire (tequila and jalapeño) is a must-try for anyone who likes a bit of heat.

• Save Room for Dessert: The Guava Pavlova is light, airy, and the perfect tropical finish.

Spago is definitely a “special occasion” splurge, but for the quality of food and the impeccable service, it is worth every penny. We will be dreaming about this meal until our next trip to Maui!

Tonight we enjoyed the launch of the Friday night cocktail food pairing for our anniversary. It was perfection. The service was impeccable, the food was excellent as per usual but the evening felt personal and special. Our 2 hosts (not just bartenders) created such a beautiful journey, sharing their stories and how they love food and creating cocktails. It was the added touch that most tasting menus just skip right over. They shared with us the expatiation of the food but we very much enjoyed how they created these cocktail choices and the road that led them here. Kudos Spago for a wonderful and memorable experience. What a beautiful way to celebrate our 20th! Until next time… thank you!

Spago felt more like a lovely dinner spot than a destination for celebrating a special occasion, as our anniversary wasn’t acknowledged during the meal by our main server.

We had been quite spoiled at the Fairmont restaurants and at Ferraro’s, where we were given wonderful sunset-view tables and where our anniversary was warmly acknowledged. At Spago, we were seated three rows back near the bar. Fair enough—only so many tables can have prime placement—but unlike Ferraro’s, there was no acknowledgment of our anniversary at all. No “Happy Anniversary,” and no sense that it had been noted. I assumed I must have left it off the reservation, as there was no recognition during service.

The only mention came from Vicky, the assistant server, who remarked on how unusual 31 years of marriage is and asked our secret. That was appreciated, but it was the extent of it.

Our main server was professional but somewhat perfunctory and not especially warm. Vicky, on the other hand, was friendly and genuinely pleasant.

On the food side, there were some bright spots. I enjoyed the Guava Lava—a lemon, coconut, and pineapple cocktail that drinks like dessert. The bread platter was a highlight: onion sourdough focaccia, Samoan rolls, and wheat-and-thyme flatbread crisps served with butter, yuzu, and baba ghanoush. I also enjoyed the macadamia nut–crusted mahi mahi, which was well prepared.

For dessert, we ordered the Lemon Zinger. Only ten are made each night due to the labor involved. It was light, refreshing, and nicely done. “Happy Anniversary” was written in chocolate on the plate—there, we were finally celebrated, Spago-style, thanks to Vicky.

If you’re there on a Saturday or Sunday evening, you can catch a partial view of the Fire Knife show, which takes place at 6:30 pm and is visible from the balcony.

Host was not great. Not very welcoming and a 2 month reservation for “sunset view” still gets you a back table. Looking around, wouldn’t waste your time on views, so many other dinners with better views on Maui. Food was good. Waitress was attentive but not very knowledgeable. Had spicy himachi roll followed by tempura battered, wok fried pink snapper along with jasmine rice and bok choy and chocolate souffle for dessert. Food was good. But overall scale, was middle to lower tier on our list of great restaurants on Maui.

The staff was wonderful! They seated us at a table with a beautiful view of the sunset. The food was absolutely delicious! They even brought out a special dessert with Happy Anniversary written in chocolate syrup on the plate as a surprise. Couldn’t have picked a better restaurant to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary!

We had an exceptional anniversary dinner at Spago. The mocktails were creative and excellent. We started with the spicy bluefin tuna sushi and the burrata and beet salad with figs and candied walnuts — both beautifully balanced and full of flavor. For our mains, the diver scallops were cooked perfectly, and the seafood curry was, in my wife’s words, the best she’s ever had. High praise indeed! She loved the sauce’s combination of spicy and slightly sweet notes. We shared the Valrhona chocolate soufflé for dessert — a perfect ending. As guests with celiac disease, we appreciated the team’s confident guidance toward safe options. Combined with polished service, a front row view of a stunning sunset setting, and a very nice acknowledgement of our anniversary, this was one of our best Maui dinners. We’ll absolutely be back next year!

Do not waste your money here. Quite possibly the worst dinner i have ever had with this price range. Ive had Applebees that tasted better than this! I have been to hundreds of high end restaurants across the US. The steak was chewy, and flavorless, the mushroom gnocchi had a sour aftertaste, and the tuna cones were bitter but also sweet at the same time, gross! Service was ok and views were fine. Do not come here expecting good food.

I’m continually amazed how the 4 season brand allows a C- experience at its maui property. While I know the restaurant is not owned or managed by the hotel , it still falls under the hotel experience. I eat at this hotel 2-3 times per month as a local resident (Komo and Ferraros) . I had dinner at Spago last night after not being that for 4 years (and about 4 years prior to that). I knew going to Spagos to lower my expectations based on prior dinning there and NOTHING has changed. Horroable service (dirty dishes just left on table after each course that we had to ask to be removed before next course, had to flag down waiter to get a of second cocktails (and they left first round of dirty glassware ) , flag down for water refill , flag down for check (hence you see dessert dirty dishes). 4 seasons ….. please take back over your beloved brand !!!
