The food we got had rather unexpected flavors. I didn’t like the coconut shrimp very much, but those who love strong coconut flavors may enjoy it better. The kalbi short ribs also did not taste as good as I hoped. At least my husband’s fries are crispy and the burger is ok. Cute little place, fills up fast. We are lucky we didn’t have to wait to be seated.

New Hawaiian BBQ place in town, open maybe a week or two(?). Cute and fun vibe. I tried the Kalua Pork, which came with rice, cabbage, pineapple coleslaw, and macaroni salad.
Pros:
1) Great location
2) Great service
3) Fast
4) Good portions
5) Pineapple Coleslaw (Yum)

Cons:
1) Flavorless, tasteless, dry pulled pork
2) “BBQ” sauce that looked and tasted like a blend of ketchup and cocktail sauce. Eww.
3) Only given about a Tbsp of supposed “BBQ” sauce for so much food that didn’t already come sauced up.
3) Mac salad was bland, boring, and had zero flavor other than the mayo it was made with.

One positive food mention, however, is the Pineapple Coleslaw. Well done on that side dish. Really would have liked some kind of sauce on and for the pulled pork; never had such dry pulled pork before. I understand new places have growing pains when they first open and things usually become more cohesive with time. I hope that happens with this place. Love BBQ of any origin, but this was not good. If a color represented the flavor profiles, it would be BEIGE.

So, here’s the thing. If the portion sizes were 10% bigger, it would be a very solid place to eat.

That being said, all our meals were flavorful, hot, and tasted fresh. There is the obvious island upcharge, but the prices seem mostly reasonable for what you get.

Canned drinks are $2 which is more than fair.

Most meals average $18pp which isn’t outrageous.

It’s a small island. Food is expensive. Even grocery food is expensive.

However, if you’re looking for a low fuss, hot and tasty meal then this could be the place for you.

Overall, we enjoyed it. As mentioned previously, it would be better if the portions were 10% bigger.

Don’t get the fries. Not worth it.

We really liked the theme of the restaurant and the prices seemed reasonable. I think we liked the ribs best and the shrimp is okay. I appreciated that they had some gluten free menu items

A solid place for breakfast or lunch – plus a great change from the typical. Moco Loco was totally on point and the pineapple slaw was fantastic. We will be coming back for sure!

I am 100% sure the edamame is not fully cooked, it is quite raw and feels like rubber from the skin, and the beans inside are hard. I had two of them then I decide to throw the rest away. Hopefully I won’t get food poisoning from this.

Definitely stop here! The atmosphere is fun! The owner was the one who helped us and she was fantastic! She asked about our trip to the island and was very personable! Oh and her baking is AMAZING! We got shortbread cookies and coconut bread (both delicious!)

The food was good! We got the BBQ Chicken plate and the Kalua Pork. The chicken was really good! The pork could have used more sauce but had good flavor and was moist!

We really liked this place. The lady was nice. The lunch plates were very good. I got pulled pork sliders and cole slaw and it was great! The deserts were also great (the owner apparently used to own a bakery). Don’t go here if you’re expecting fine dining but if you’re looking for a solid kid friendly lunch place, our family was highly satisfied.

From the outside, Aloha Friday looks like a fun Hawaiian BBQ joint. Inside, it was sort of like a mediocre cafeteria. The pineapple in the coleslaw was definitely canned. They use paper plates. The Hawaiian sweet rolls were definitely just bought from a grocery store. The BBQ sauce also tasted like it was store-bought. The chicken and rice were fine but not worth what we paid. I haven’t spent much time in Friday Harbor, but there are definitely better places to eat than this one.
