Quite good. I thought hand carved Texas style brisket was very good. Ribs are also very good, with great smoke penetration and good seasoning. I also tried dark meat chicken which had a nice smokiness as well. BBQ beans were good , corn bread is great, succotash is alright, Mac and cheese was a disappointment, but we did get there pretty late in the day: it could be better early in the day.

BBQ in greater Boston can be challenging. I know the other good places, many of them are too far from home.
Slowbones uses quality meat, and smokes it properly. The sides are good. The portions are generous. The price is right.
Tonight I had 1/3 slab of ribs with potato salad and collards. I’m fed without being bloated- cost less than $13.00.

I wish I could review this higher. I loved, loved, loved, the brisket. The meat and bbq sauces are fantastic, which is what you want from a bbq place. The sides though, they’re just not good. The potatoes were flavorless and fake, the slaw is “chopped” i.e. huge pieces of everything with lack luster dressing. Nothing had much taste and it wasn’t expensive but still not worth it.

Definitely disappointed. Saw this reviewed on Phantom Gourmet as a great quick bbq place but the chicken was dry and the fries were soggy. Additionally, my friend got the ribs which I tried and they were dry and lacked flavor as well. Left feeling like I paid way too much for sub-par food.

The portions are generous and the food is very good–the smell is almost good enough to pull over on your way back to the office and have at it–but the people are what made my day at this place! I was having a terrible day and everything was going wrong and their lovely staff sympathized with me even during the lunch rush. Will definitely come again.
