I have moved away from this area, so I am always eager to visit when I am back in town. Even though I live in Chicago now, and it is known for its food scene, Red Mule still has some of the best burgers and fries I’ve ever eaten. The parking is a bit tricky, and the entrance isn’t well labeled, but this place is a gem! I would highly recommend the Mule Burger, fried pickles, fries, and, depending on who is in the kitchen that night, the wings. The wings are hit or miss, though I’ve never had a bad burger from here! Plus they have a decent selection of beers on tap, and low prices!

Asked a local for a good lunch spot and was advised this was a local favorite. Ordered pizza and Philly steak with onion petals. I ate every bite of mine. Didn’t try the pizza but was told it was super good and it looked and smelled good. Great service and atmosphere. Would like to go back in the evening for a couple of drinks and dinner. Even the customers were friendly. Decor is unique also and if you’re lucky enough to be there when a train goes by you feel like it’s so close you could reach out and touch it. Added to the fun watching the trains.

The Red Mule has been one of our favorite places but we couldn’t help but notice that the salad was not wonderful like it used to be; no croutons and the blue cheese which was always excellent was not good at all. Your burgers that used to be great seemed like a pre fried industrial burger was opposed to the great burgers you made before and the mayonnaise you are serving now tastes like some kind of industrial, no taste kind of sauce. We also bought a small pizza and even the pizza seemed off. This was maybe 4-5 days ago. I am not asking for any compensation just please go back to the good food you previously served. Thank you

We have had many great experiences here. Our favorite is their cauliflower crust pizza….either Hawaiian or chicken bacon ranch. We also love their chicken salad. There have been times where they get slammed and only have a few workers….be patient and kind to those actually showing up and I promise you won’t be disappointed. Where else can you enjoy a meal with a beer while your table vibrates from the train?

First time here, ate alone. Had a great country town bar feel, new tv’s and vood decor. The “mule burger” was splendid.

5 stars for everything. Food was hot and top-notch. I ordered a salad and waffle fries. Service was amazing. And it wasnt too loud or too hot in the restaurant. Perfect for a meal out. Will definitely be back!

My girlfriend and I tried out this place on a whim. Monday evening and a lot of small bars are closed. We had nothing going on, so we decided to make the 30 minute drive after discovering the Red Mule on Google. We couldn’t have been more satisfied with the experience! It’s a quaint little place with great atmosphere and good music playing. The bartender, who was running the front all by herself, was very attentive and pleasant. She never kept us waiting for anything. And the food was AMAZING! I highly recommend the grilled chicken, bacon, and Monterey Jack. My girlfriend loved her grilled cheesburger (fyi, this is just like a grilled cheese but with a burger on it). The potato chips (homemade) with cheese and bacon were fantastic, though a somewhat small portion to share. The prices were quite reasonable too. As people who tend to gravitate toward bar & grill type places, we’ll defiantly be returning to the Red Mule again soon. Can’t wait to try the pizza! Oh.. word of advice for newbies – enter on the side, at the nondescript door with nothing but a red mule on it. Took us a few minutes to figure that out, but all good!
