I really can’t rave enough about the food itself but I have to shout out the staff. This was some of the most attentive, friendly and welcoming staff I’ve seen at a restaurant in a while truly. I was blown away by the service from our waiter Emmanuel, to the young man who sat us and brought our food out. Overall the best experience I can’t say enough!! I randomly tried this on a whim and so happy we did! We will definitely be back!!
Prices are super reasonable for the portion sizes and the service was excellent! We will be returning for sure!
The duck wings were disappointing, with very little meat and a texture that leaned dry and tough, buried under an overly sweet sauce. The brussels sprouts were covered in a similarly overwhelming, but different sugary glaze. The crab sandwich was slightly better than the rest, but the crab-to-tempura ratio was about 50/50 and the flavor was boring so it was not something I would order again.
The lychee mint fizz mocktail was genuinely delicious, but at $9 it felt overpriced, especially considering it was served in a small rocks glass (roughly 4–5 ounces of sparkling water, mint, and lychee juice over ice).
Service alone would have earned four stars. However, when I mentioned that the Salt Salad was overwhelmed with what tasted like mayonnaise and lacked flavor, the response was simply, “it’s better with protein.” This didn’t address the issue of the salad being overdressed, under-seasoned, or lacking balance, and it came across as dismissive. There was no effort to resolve the concern, even though we were one of only three tables in the restaurant and the server was not working alone. Our interaction lasted maybe 30 seconds. She began stacking plates while I was speaking and began turning away mid-conversation, asking something along the lines of “are you sure you’re good?”. It felt rushed and awkward. The salad itself was not tangy or bright and tasted like watered-down cream. After about a third of it, I gave up. We arrived very hungry and initially ate a fair amount before realizing the overall quality wasn’t improving—asking for a remake didn’t feel worthwhile. Additionally, I have worked in restaurants before. If a guest had mentioned poor taste or quality, a manager would have been told and come over without hesitation, especially when it’s not busy. I didn’t necessarily want much attention, but I just didn’t expect to be met with “it’s better with protein”. Wow.
We won’t be returning. The restaurant is advertised as Michelin-recognized, and this affiliation is stated prominently on the menu. It’s clear they are proud of the mention, but the food we experienced did not reflect it. We left hungry and underwhelmed. We went to a taco stand a little later that had much better food. I usually expect sit down restaurants to be at least as good as a taco stand.
I really wasn’t expecting much when I mentioned the salad and duck wings were disappointing but I expected a more professional response. When quality and hospitality are strong, explanations and refunds aren’t necessary—the product should speak for itself.
Salt Smokehouse is an excellent spot if you’re craving quality barbecue and great food in a laid-back atmosphere.
We went on Tuesday, January 13 at 4:30 PM, right as they opened, after finishing an hour-long hike not far from the restaurant, and it was the perfect way to end the afternoon.
The food is packed with flavor, cooked just right, and clearly made with care. Portions are generous and prices are fair. We started with the crispy Brussels sprouts tossed in hot honey, yuzu, and tamari glacé for $13 as an appetizer, and they were absolutely delicious—perfectly crispy with an incredible balance of sweet, savory, and heat.
For our meals, I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich (ginger & garlic marinated organic chicken, tomato, onions, avocado, bacon, chimichurri, and mixed greens on wheat bread) for $17, and I honestly can’t say enough good things about it—it was outstanding. My girlfriend got the Bánh Mì No! with smoked pecan pork butt, pickled veggies, fresh cilantro, and smoked cayenne white sauce (not spicy) on a French roll for $15, and she loved it just as much.
When we picked up our sandwiches to eat, the sauces ran out under our hands and dripped onto our plates, making them a bit messy—but both sandwiches were absolutely delicious and full of flavor.
The service deserves special recognition. This is hands-down the best service I’ve received from a restaurant in years. Several of the servers were extremely attentive and helpful, which really elevated the entire experience.
Excellent food, outstanding service, and a place we’ll absolutely be coming back to. Highly recommend.

This spot right here is a hidden gem! The atmosphere was on point – bright, clean, and lively with the Alabama game playing in the background. The staff was welcoming, knew the menu, and gave great recommendations that hit the mark.
My wife ordered the burnt ends, and they were so tender she could cut them with her fork. I went with the BBQ thighs – you could taste and smell that mesquite flavor in every bite. The sides sealed the deal: baked beans and loaded potato salad were straight-up fall -out-good. Dessert we had a red velvet cake was rich and delicious.
If you’re looking for real BBQ flavor and top-notch service in Huntsville, Salt Smokehouse delivers. Glad we were invited here for dinner and we’ll definitely be back!
