I stopped in because I am new to the area and they sent me a coupon. The brisket was tender. The sides are very good. The coleslaw appears to be shredded instead of chopped like most places. Portions are large. I will return to try the pork and chicken.

Stopped in while I was in the area for work. The prices were reasonable, the portions were good, and the sides tasted homemade. I ordered the brisket and turkey dinner. They offer lean, regular, and most options for brisket. Included in their sides are their cobblers. The peach cobbler was delicious. Stop in or drive thru, either way, you leave stuffed and satisfied.

Excellent Brisket. Great customer service and fast. My and I enjoyed eating here. Plenty of parking outside. We got mixed lean and moist brisket. The pickles and onions were nice to have.

I’d recommend probably having a BBQ sauce bottle so if you don’t need it it doesn’t have to go to waste for the restaurant.

Friendly people and helpful with the menu. Wish the food met the same standard. The brisket sandwich resembled a minced sloppy Joe, bland, though the portion size was adequate. The chicken sandwich was dry but good flavor. Potato salad was overpowered by mustard, pickle and the potatoes used were mashed. Was excited to try a brownie, just to find out it was so dry, it crumbled into pieces, though it tasted decent once my saliva gave it the moisture it so desperately needed. This place gives cafeteria food vibes.

This review is based on my experience 2/2/2026. Out of all the barbecue places I’ve visited in Austin, Texas and the surrounding areas, The Pit Barbecue truly lived up to its name—because the food was dry. Very dry.

The ribs were the biggest disappointment. They were dry, lacked flavor, and honestly tasted like they had been boiled rather than smoked. There was no bark, no smoke flavor, and no seasoning to speak of. For a city known for world-class barbecue, this was shocking.

The chicken didn’t fare any better. I had the leg quarters, which sometimes can still be juicy depending on preparation, but not here. They were dry, tough, and forgettable. Unfortunately, this seemed to be a theme across the board—everything else was dry as well.

Seasoning was practically nonexistent. The barbecue lacked any real flavor profile, which makes me think this is one of those places that relies heavily on sauce (though even that wouldn’t have saved it). Based purely on food quality, this is not a place I would return to.

The sides were just as disappointing.

The macaroni and cheese was not good at all—bland, odd-tasting, and lacking the richness you’d expect.

The green beans looked so unappetizing that I didn’t even bother eating them. They appeared unseasoned, dry, and lacking any visible liquid or flavor enhancement.

Overall, The Pit Barbecue missed the mark in every major area: moisture, seasoning, flavor, and execution. In a city like Austin, where great barbecue is everywhere, this place simply doesn’t compete. Unfortunately, this experience earns it a firm do not recommend based on the food alone.

The food is amazing! The brisket is so juicy and tender, the ribs are very salty but mostly are fall off the bone tender (but bill millers in San Antonio is way better), the potato salad is creamy, and the coleslaw has nice flavors. I recommend this place for bbq. Prices are fair and the amount you get is decent.

I arrived in the early evening and ordered the brisket plate. The staff informed me they were out of brisket as well as a couple of other meats, but they offered to make it up with a different meat alongside the brisket that they had left, which was above and beyond. I really appreciated that.

Speaking of the brisket, it was very tender, as all brisket should be. Wasn’t a big fan of the coleslaw though, it didn’t seemed mixed all that well. The sausage was cooked nicely, I enjoyed it as well. Overall, not bad!

Georgetown BBQ since 1979! What makes this place special is their offering of a savory BBQ sauce that is a NOT SUPER SWEET OPTION.

You can get sweet sauce if you want it but they have this delicious sauce that defies description.

Their green beans taste SUPER FRESH and not over cooked with bacon. Their meat is very good too.

The atmosphere is very friendly and it is a modest Mom and Pop eatery down the road on Williams. I highly recommend that they be added to your BBQ circuit!

We are very glad to recommend this business to our Georgetown neighbors and beyond.
We are very grateful for how the owner Mr Neal Tucker, and manager Melanie went above and beyond to fix an order issue.
They listened well, were empathetic and understanding, and were very generous in resolving the issue. Thank you, Mr Tucker.
Our whole family is appreciative of the fine way you carry out your business, and are very glad to highly recommend your business and diligent staff to the community -Sara Loh

Very disappointed with The Pit in Georgetown. All I had was the Chopped Beef ( which is one of their staples) and in my opinion… It was Horrible. Literally the worst I have ever had! It tasted like Cat food. The staff wasn’t very pleasant either. But whoa that chopped beef is disgusting, all I can say.
